Bertram “Bert” Clem Wienhoff

Bertram “Bert” Clem Wienhoff, 93, of Quincy, passed away Saturday (April 4) at Blessing Hospital. His death was due to complications from pneumonia.

He was born on December 16, 1921, in Quincy, to Amelia (Menke) and Clem Wienhoff. He married Phyllis Argust in 1944. Following their divorce, he married Betty Smalley Dutt on June 16, 1967. Both Phyllis and Betty survive him.

A lifelong resident of Quincy, Bert graduated from Quincy High School. Bert served in the U.S Army during World War II, where he was stationed on the Aleutian Islands and in the Philippines. Bert worked as a machinist for 37 years at the Gardner Denver Company. He was president of the Machinist Union for 5 of those years. He was also a longstanding member of the Knights of Columbus as well as the Western Catholic Union.

Bert was an avid gardener, bowler, and Cubs fan. A staunch Democrat, he had faith in his convictions and was not shy in expressing them. He was devoted to his wife, Betty, whom he often described as “the love of his life”. He was a faithful member of St. Francis’ parish, and volunteered for many years at St. Vincent’s Home.

Survivors include his wife Betty; his son Jerry Wienhoff (Lynn Brinkley), of Pensacola, Florida; his stepdaughter Margot Mills, of Mesa, Arizona; his stepson Hank Dutt (Greg Dubinsky), of San Francisco, California; his grandsons Wayne Wienhoff (Lisa Offenborn), of Navarre, Florida and Jason Wienhoff, of Pensacola, Florida; his great-graddaughter, Cherokee Wienhoff, of Navarre, Florida; and a daughter-in-law, Betty Ann Wienhoff, of Quincy. Several cousins, nieces and nephews also survive.

Bert was preceded in death by his son, Michael; brothers and sister, Arthur, Edward, Gertrude, Joseph, Norbert and Bobby.

Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, April 8, 2015 at 9:30 at the Duker & Haugh Funeral Home and at 10:00 AM in St. Francis Catholic Church. Interment in Sunset Cemetery of the Illinois Veterans Home with military rites conducted at the cemetery. There will be a visitation at the Duker & Haugh Funeral Home Wednesday morning from 8:30 Am until the time of the services. In lieu of flowers, donations in his name to the St. Francis School will be gratefully accepted.

    Great Uncle Bert will be truly missed by all of us. He always brought laughter to us at every gathering. He was a very caring Uncle to all of us. Love ya, Uncle Bert
