Beatrice “Betty” Louise Hoeckelman

Beatrice “Betty” Louise Hoeckelman, age 92, of Quincy, IL, died on Saturday, January 29, 2022, at 2:00 p.m. at home, in Quincy Senior and Family Resource Center, in Quincy, IL. Betty was born in Chicago, IL, on March 28, 1929, a daughter to Frank and Irene (Kuper) Evans. She married Oscar Hoeckelman June 17, 1950, in Chicago, IL. Oscar preceded her in death on November 13, 2016.

Betty worked at the Fairfield Inn as the breakfast hostess for 16 years, prior to her retirement in 2012. When she wasn’t working, she liked spending time with family and her dog Sparky, playing cards, and watching her beloved Chicago Cubs.

Survivors include four children; Frances Graff (Tom) of Quincy, Irene Whetro (Bill) of Urbandale, Iowa; John Hoeckelman (Sharon) of Madison, Virginia, and Rosemary Jones (Brian), of Colorado. Two sisters, Cecelia Andrews of Crown Point, IN and Jean Majka of Oregon, and many grandchildren and great grandchildren, also survive.

She is preceded in death by her parents (Frank and Irene Evans), her husband (Oscar Hoeckelman), her son (David Hoeckelman), a daughter (Mary Schmitt), a sister (Bernadine Hoeckelman), and a brother (Frank Evans).

A Memorial Mass will be held at Blessed Sacrament Church on Saturday, February 19, 2022 at 11:30 a.m. Visitation will be held Saturday morning from 10:30 a.m. until the time of services. Memorials are suggested to the Quincy Humane Society.

    I was so sorry to hear about Betty’s passing. Her and Oscar always made me feel like a part of the family from day one. I feel very blessed to have known her. I always hoped I would get to see her again. My prayers are with all of you. God Bless!!

    I have fond memories of Betty working for my mother at Zim’s Drive Inn on Hampshire Street. She was one of the nicest people I will ever know! John, Irene, Rosemary and your families my thoughts and prayers are with you! I believe God welcomed an angel when she passed.

    Your mother was a lovely women. She and your dad would go out shopping and she didn’t seem to mind driving the little truck. God bless!
