Barbara Jean Kiefer
Barbara Jean Kiefer age 75, of Quincy died on Friday, July 26, 2024 in her home. Barb was born in Quincy on April 20, 1949, a daughter of William Joseph and Beatrice Ann “Bette” (Engels) Schrand. She married George Steven “Steve” Kiefer on June 21, 1969, and he survives.
Barbara was a C.N.A. who worked at the Illinois Veteran’s Home from 2003 until she retired in 2015.
She was a member of the Church of St. Peter. Barb was a great cook, and she liked painting with acrylics on canvas.
In addition to her husband, Steve, survivors also include her children:
Joanna (Chad) Jackson of Hull, IL; Michael “Mike” (Kim) Kiefer; Sara (Tim) Bowman all of Quincy; Christopher “Chris” (Kayla) Kiefer of Coatsburg, IL.
Grandchildren: Angela (Lucas) Dively; John (Natalie) Phillips; Kayla (fiancé Zach) Phillips; Dylan Kiefer; Emily Kiefer; Andy Bowman; Matthew Bowman, Mark Kiefer; Courtney Kiefer; and Sophia Kiefer. Great-Grandchildren: Lucas Jackson; Hunter Zenk; Zoey and Hudson Dively; Easton and Brooklyn Phillips.
Siblings: Patricia “Pat’ (Mark) Owens of Plainfield, IL; Dennis “Dan” (Lynda) Schrand of Rockford, IL; and Tom (Linda) Schrand of Quincy. Many aunts, uncles, nieces, and nephews also survive.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her father-in-law; brother-in-law and sister-in-law.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Monday, August 5, 2024 at 10:00 a.m. at the Church of St. Peter. There is no visitation, but family and friends are invited to the funeral mass. Private inurnment at Calvary Cemetery. Memorials are suggested to Blessing Foundation for Hospice, the American Cancer Society or the American Heart Association.

My family lived next door to the Schrands in the 60s and 70s. Barb was like a big sister to me. Sending my condolences to her family and friends.
