Barbara A. Helmedag

Barbara A. Helmedag, age 92, of Quincy, died on Wednesday, January 12, 2022 in her home. She was born on December 16, 1929 in Marcelline, IL the daughter of Bennett and Bertha (Stoll) Bisell. She was a graduate of Quincy High School. She married Harold ‘Hank’ Helmedag on April 10, 1948. He preceded her in death on May 24, 1980.

Barbara was the bookkeeper for ‘The Mirror’ for over 25 years. She was a member of St. Peter Catholic Church. Barbara liked playing golf. She also enjoyed collecting antique dolls and making clothes for them.

She is survived by:
TWO CHILDREN: Marsha Merkel and Terri Helmedag both of Quincy.
TWO GRANDCHILDREN: Jeff Merkel of Quincy and Jennifer Merkel Howie of Chatham, IL
TWO GREAT-GRANDCHILDREN: Julia Howie and Kiersten Howie.
Numerous nieces, nephews and other relatives also survive.

Barbara was preceded in death by her parents, a sister Phyllis Poulter and a son-in-law: William Merkel.

Funeral services will be held on Monday, January 17, 2022 at 11:00 AM in St. Peter Catholic Church. Interment in Quincy Memorial Park. Visitation will be held at St. Peter Catholic Church on Monday from 10:00 AM until the time of the services at 11:00. Memorials may be made to the Blessing Foundation for Hospice.
