Arthur Leroy Scheufele
Arthur Leroy Scheufele was born on a rainy morning, April 1, 1929 at 1128 No. 16th Street in Quincy, IL, a son of Carl and Stella (Schulte) Scheufele. Art died Tuesday, April 26, 2016 at 6:15 p.m. in Blessing Hospital.
Art attended St. Francis Grade School and Quincy Senior High. He married Jean E. Schultz on April 3, 1948.
He served in a U.S. Marine Aircraft Wing, which was a regimental combat team, during the Korean War.
After the war Art worked as a carpenter for Russ Allen for 15 years. He then went out on his own, building many fine homes in the Quincy area.
Art was a 30 year collector of old toy trucks from the 1900’s – 1940’s. He also restored antique toys for collectors in many states.
He was a member of St. Francis Catholic Church.
His memberships also included the American Legion Post #37 and North Side Businessmen’s Association.
Survivors include one son, Brian (Laura) Scheufele of Browns Mills, NJ, and two grandsons, Tim (Kyrie) Scheufele of Federal Heights, CO & Tyler (Anastasia) Scheufele of Charleston, SC and six great-grandchildren, Alexis, Meaghan, and Timothy Scheufele Jr of Federal Heights, CO and Madison, Benjamin, and Carter Scheufele of Charleston, SC. His sister Ruth Schneider and brother Lawrence Scheufele.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his former spouse, three brothers, Robert, Richard and Charles Scheufele, and a sister, Mary Ellen Gordon.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Thursday, May 5, 2016 at 11:00 a.m.in St. Francis Solanus Catholic Church. Visitation will be on Thursday for one hour between 10:00 and 11:00 a.m. at the church. Interment will be in Calvary Cemetery, with military honors to be conducted by American Legion Post #37. Memorials are suggested to the American Legion Post #37 and Myasthenia Gravis Foundation of America.
