Arlene T. Middendorf
Arlene T. Middendorf, age 84, of Good Samaritan Home, formerly of 2307 Ranchland Drive, died peacefully on Sunday, March 4, 2012 at 10:00 a.m. in the home. She was born February 22, 1928 in Quincy, a loving daughter of Frank and Leona (Meyer) Middendorf.
Arlene attended St. Francis Grade School, Notre Dame High School and was a graduate of St. Louis University. Upon graduation, she was employed as secretary at the former Middendorf Lumber Company at 3rd & Delaware. After it was destroyed by fire the company moved to 6th & York Streets as Mid’s, Inc. where she continued as secretary until it closed in 1985.
Arlene was a devoted member of Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church where she was a member of the Council of Catholic Women, the Sacred Heart League, Why Catholic study group and the Cursillo movement. She was also a long-time member of Altrusa International Club, Sheridan Swim Club and the Elks Club. She traveled extensively upon retirement.
Arlene is survived by her brother Carl Middendorf and his wife Rita and a sister-in-law, Mary Ann Middendorf, all of Quincy; three nephews, Eric Middendorf of Evansville, IN, Curt (Suzette) Middendorf of Quincy and Max (Brenda) Middendorf of Pittsfield, IL; a special niece, Marti (Fred III) Kientzle, of Quincy; six great-nephews, Freddie, Brandon and Parker Kientzle, Derek, Mitchell and Curt, Jr. Middendorf, all of Quincy and six great-nieces, Erika, Brittany, Lacy and Hannah Middendorf of Evansville, Leah Middendorf and Faith Kientzle both of Quincy; special friends, Pat Lawrence and Helen Dopheide both of Quincy and her dog, Allie.
In addition to her parents, Arlene was preceded in death by her brother, Richard Middendorf.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Wednesday, March 7, 2012 at 11:00 a.m. at Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church by the Msgr. Michael Kuse. Interment will be in Calvary Cemetery. Visitation will be held Wednesday morning at Blessed Sacrament Church beginning at 10:00 a.m. until the time of services at 11:00. Memorials may be made to Blessed Sacrament Parish or to Altrusa International. The Duker & Haugh Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
