Antoinette J. “Dolly” Genenbacher, age 85, formerly of 2330 S. 48th died at 5:00 a.m., Wednesday, April 18, 2018 at Good Samaritan Home.
Dolly was born on February 23, 1933, in Melrose Township, Quincy, Illinois. Dolly was a daughter of Timothy and Leona Ann (Mettemeyer) Mast. She married Robert C. Genenbacher on November 8, 1952, in St. Anthony Catholic Church in Quincy. He died on October 3, 2005 in Quincy.
As a child, Dolly attended St. Anthony Catholic Grade School and graduated from Notre Dame High School of Quincy.
Dolly was a member of St. Anthony Catholic Church, as well as a member of the St. Anthony Altar Society, Knights of Columbus Auxiliary, member and officer for the Quincy League of the Western Catholic Union Branch 51, the Adams County Olde Tyme Association, served on the Quincy Notre Dame School Board, St. Anthony Homemakers Extension Unit and Q.N.D. Parents and Friends
Mrs. Genenbacher worked as the secretary for her husband’s construction company that they started in 1956 and were an inseparable team. Together they built one of the first “all electricity heated” homes in Adams County. Also, she farmed alongside of Bob when they purchased and moved to her childhood home on South 48th street. In 1979, she started as a cashier for Mosley-Beckman Auctioneers and for sixteen years was the assessor for Melrose Township for Adams County. The Township Officials of Illinois recognized her for meeting standards of excellence in their assessing districts.

Dolly always put her family before herself. Their children are successful in their own right due largely to the encouragement she provided and values she instilled. With eight children and 29 grandchildren in countless activities, she was continuously on the go. She was happiest when the family was together. Dolly was a devoted wife and loving mother, and loved spending time with their grandchildren. She enjoyed traveling with friends, attending auctions, doing family genealogy, and refinishing furniture. She had a respect for God and passed it on to her family.

Dolly is survived by her children, Mary (LeRoy) Venvertloh, Ron (Rita) Genenbacher, Mike Genenbacher, and Joe (Kathy) Genenbacher all of Quincy, Theresa (Dave) Bockhold of Payson, Dan (Nancy) Genenbacher and Ted (Sarah) Genenbacher both of Fowler, and Judy (Steve) Yeast of Sciota; a sister-in-law, Margie Mast of Payson and a brother-in-law, Ralph Venvertloh of Quincy;
Sisters-in-law, Mary Ellen Melander and her husband, Donald Anue, of Hunter, N.D., Anna Mae Hoebing, Emma (Jerry) Wiewel Eldridge and Cathy (Larry) Hildebrand all of Quincy, Jane (Robert) Obert of Liberty, and two brothers-in-law, James (Elaine) Genenbacher of Quincy, and Robert DiMucci of Naples, Florida; 29 grandchildren, Lee (Sarah) Venvertloh, Christine Venvertloh, Anna (Edward) Benz, Penny (Matt) Weiman, and Nick (Brandi) Venvertloh, Kim (Kyle) Venvertloh, Nathan (Melissa) Genenbacher, Ryan (Jessica) Genenbacher, Jordan (Morgan) Genenbacher, Karissa and Kate Genenbacher, Lance and Cara Genenbacher, Amber Genenbacher and her fiancée, Cody Moore, Olivia and Brady Genenbacher, Laura (Mike) Ohnemus, Matt (Ashley) Bockhold, Ross (Sarah) Bockhold, Robbie (Beth) Genenbacher, Julie (Jay) Peter, Becky (Dusty) Bingaman, Michelle (Justin) Deege, Tad (Morgan) Genenbacher, Brad (Amanda) Genenbacher, Andrew Genenbacher and his fiancée, Nicole Henning, Melissa (Leandro) Telles, Michael (Elizabeth)Yeast, and Ashley (Mitch) Tanney and 46 great grandchildren along with nieces and nephews.
In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents; her father-in-law and mother-in-law, Elmer and Mildred (Sommer) Genenbacher. Dolly was the last surviving sibling of her family having also been preceded in death by two brothers, Albert (Evelyn) Mast and Joseph Mast, four sisters, Virginia (Wilfred) Huber, MaryAnn (Eugene) Grawe, Frances (Robert) Meyer and Elizabeth “Betty” Venvertloh. Three brothers-in-law, Dennis Melander, Richard Hoebing and Claude Wiewel and sister-in-law, Connie DiMucci. Two great grandchildren, Gwendolyn and Ellison Bockhold.

Funeral services will be held on Monday, April 23, 2018 at 10:00 AM in St. Anthony Catholic Church, by Rev. Tom Donovan. Interment in St. Anthony Cemetery. Visitation will be held on Sunday, April 22, 2018 from 3:00 PM until 7:00 PM at St. Anthony Catholic Church
In lieu of flowers please give to the Memorial Fund in Dolly’s memory to be used for the preservation of the history of St. Anthony Catholic Church. The Duker & Haugh Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
