Anne B. Stephan
Anne B. Stephan, age 89, of Quincy, died on Thursday, February 8, 2018 in Sunset Home. Anne was born in Winchester, VA a daughter of Samuel M. and Virginia C.T. (Bush) Blakemore. She married Frederick P. Stephan on June 24, 1949 in Mariemont, OH. He preceded her in death on November 15, 2017.
Anne graduated from Walnut Hills High School in Cincinnati, OH. She attended Cornell University, majoring in zoology and art, and received a Bachelor of Arts degree in 1950.
When the Stephan family moved to Quincy in 1967, Anne was active in the League of Women Voters and the YWCA. She worked at Quincy School Music Center from 1972 to 1976. In 1977 she began working at Quincy Storage and Transfer as a bookkeeper. She continued working there, full-time and then part-time, until 2010 when she retired at age 82.
Anne was a scientist and an artist. She expressed her art in sewing, knitting and craft projects. Her Cats & Birds Together quilt shows her love for these animals in beautiful appliqué. She cared for houseplants and encouraged her children to enjoy the out-of-doors. She combined science and art in her love of cooking and baking. Her curiosity and love of language and words kept her a constant reader. A life-long baseball fan, she rooted for the Reds in her early years and later followed the Cubs.
Survivors include her children, Margaret Holloway and her husband Dan of Spartanburg, SC; Sara Clapp and her husband David of Hixson, TN; David Stephan and his wife Fifi of Amagasaki, Japan; Jane Stephan of Los Angeles, CA; and Hightopper, the cat.
A sister, Priscilla Blakemore; one granddaughter, Alice Burnette and her husband Kevin Jr.; a step-grandson, Jason Fisher and his wife Dawn; two great-grandchildren; and two step-great-grandchildren, also survive.
Anne was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; a son Frederick J. Stephan; and a sister Virginia M. Blakemore.
Cremation rites have been accorded. A private family burial is planned.
Memorials are suggested to Sunset Home or to the Jackson-Lincoln Swimming Complex.

I didn’t know Anne Stephan but we have lived next door to her daughter and son-in-law, Meg and Dan Holloway, for many years. Meg spoke often of her mother’s interests and talents, especially cooking. I would love to have met her!
Anne was such a sweetheart. I had the good fortune of working with her at Quincy Storage back in the 70s and 80s. Making her laugh was always a goal! She had an infectious laugh. Condolences to you all.
