Ann Helen Viar
Ann Helen Viar, age 93, of the Sunset Home, formerly of 2806 Lind, died on Monday, November 14, 2011 in Blessing Hospital. She was born in Budapest, Hungary, on January 5, 1918 the daughter of Antonia Mihalovic and Joseph Ignatz Haberkorn. She arrived in the United States through Ellis Island at the age of 3 aboard the ship Notre Dame.
She married Estal E. Viar. He preceded her in death.
Ann was a member of the Gem City Rock Club. She was an accomplished artist in woodcarving, drawing, painting and many other art forms. Ann was a Senior Center Volunteer and member of the GardenClub and Carving Club. Ann traveled across the United States. She worked as an LPN at Sunset Home, the Illinois Veterans Home and at the former St. Mary Hospital. She also worked at Motorola for a number of years.
She is survived by:
ONE DAUGHTER: Linda Lynch of Tipton, IA
FIVE GRANDCHILDREN: Julian Viar, Anita Craig, Gilbert Lynch, Ronald Lynch, and James Lynch.
Numerous great-grandchildren, great-great grandchildren, and other relatives also survive.
She was preceded in death by her husband and one son: Dennis Viar.
Funeral services will be held on Thursday, November 17, 2011 at 1:30 PM in Our Redeemer Lutheran Church. Visitation will be held on Thursday at Our Redeemer Lutheran Church from 12:30 PM until the time of the services. Memorials may be made to the RSVP Program. The Duker & Haugh Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
