Ambrose Victor Meyer, age 88, of the Illinois Veterans Home, formerly of Payson, IL died on Thursday, December 22, 2016 in Blessing Hospital. He was born on April 29, 1928 at home in Burton Township, IL the son of John V. & Elizabeth (Benz) Meyer. He graduated from St. Anthony Grade School. Ambrose worked at the Electric Wheel from 1955 – 1960, and Browers for 5 years. He also worked on the family farm. In 1972, he started as a security guard for St. Mary Hospital and later transferred to Blessing Hospital, retiring at age 75 after 31 years of service. He retired in order to help take care of his brother George and his sister Mary.

Ambrose lived on the family farm until moving to the Illinois Veterans Home in 2014. He was a lifetime member of St. Anthony Catholic Church where he was active in the Holy Name Society. He was also a member of the Western Catholic Union. Ambrose served in the United States Army from 1952 until 1954 and was stationed in Germany as a line man. Throughout his life, Ambrose was a kind and gentle man. He loved his family dearly and was always there for them.

NIECES & NEPHEWS: Carol (Robert) Wehner of San Antonio, TX; Judy (Barry) Eschmann of Lockport, TX; Leonard (Theresa) Meyer of St. Peter, MO; Richard (Linda) Meyer, Darlene (Johnnie) Leithoff; Rita Schulze, Susan (Steve) Schoonover, Andrew (Tammy) Meyer, Ann Peck (Randy Stark), all of Quincy; James (Charolette) Meyer of Fowler; John (Danette) Meyer of Clackamas, OR; Anthony (Bonnie) Meyer of Portland, OR; Joseph (Tammy) Meyer of Merced, CA; Lee (Becky) Meyer of Atwater, CA; Teresa (Jim) Jarzabek of Vancouver, WA.
Many great-nieces and great-nephews also survive.

Ambrose was preceded in death by his parents, 6 brothers George, Marcellus, Leonard along with his wife Virginia, Albert, Frank, and John Meyer (Claudia); also a sister Mary Meyer; a niece Patricia Requet; a nephew Daniel Meyer and a nephew-in-law: Steve Schulze.

Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, December 27, 2016 at 11:00 AM in St. Anthony Catholic Church. Interment in St. Anthony Cemetery with military rites conducted at the cemetery. Visitation will be held at St. Anthony Catholic Church on Tuesday from 10:00 AM until the time of the services. Memorials may be made to Blessing Foundation for Hospice or to St. Anthony Catholic Church. The Duker & Haugh Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
