Alvin Dempsey
Alvin C. Dempsey, age 82, of 5801 North 42nd, Quincy, IL, died on Saturday, February 23, 2019 in his home surrounded by his family. He was born on December 1, 1936 in Quincy, IL the son of Harry & Alvina (Mettemeyer) Dempsey. He married Kay Adair on October 19, 1963. She survives. Alvin was a lifelong farmer and also drove a truck for Edgar McNay and John Isaacson. He was a member of St. Francis Catholic Church. He was also a member of the FFA, 4H and was a 4H Leader for a number of years. Alvin served on the board of the Adams Electrical Cooperative and the Ellington Home Cemetery Board.
In addition to his wife, Alvin is also survived by:
ONE SON: Dennis Dempsey and his wife Jennifer of Quincy
TWO GRANDCHILDREN: Lance Heady of Dallas, TX and Paige Heady of Quincy.
Numerous nieces, nephews and other relatives also survive.
Alvin was preceded in death by his parents, a brother Edward Dempsey and a sister Patricia Ellerbrock.
Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, February 26, 2019 at 11:00 AM in the Duker & Haugh Funeral Home. Interment in Ellington Home Cemetery. Visitation will be held at the Duker & Haugh Funeral Home on Tuesday from 10:00 AM until the time of the services at 11:00. Memorials may be made to St. Francis Catholic Church or to the Ellington Home Cemetery. Duker & Haugh Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
We were planning on coming through Quincy this June and so sorry to hear of Alvin’s passing.
My father Harold Putnam and thought alot of Mr.Dempsey and he will be missed.
