Alvin “Dean” Westerman

Alvin “Dean” Westerman, age 71, of Quincy, died on Thursday, August 11, 2016 at 10:30 a.m. in his home. He was born on December 29, 1944 in Quincy, a son of Alvin F. & Alleyne (Garrison) Westerman. He married Patti Arnold on July 27, 2003 in Quincy. She survives.

Dean was a graduate of Quincy High School and Gem City Business College. He served in the U.S. Army and was deployed in 1968 to Vietnam. He was recently able to participate on a Great River Honor Flight to Washington, D.C.

He was the former owner of the Coach House Restaurant and the Plaza Restaurant. Dean was also the builder and founder of the former Baron’s Restaurant in Quincy.

Many of his favorite times included being with his family and friends. He was a member of Cedar Crest Country Club, where he loved golfing and hanging out with his buddies. He also enjoyed traveling or just taking a ride in the car.

In addition to his wife, Patti, Dean is survived by his son Randy Westerman and his wife Susie of Quincy; step-daughters, Heather Faught of Liberty, IL, Dr. Kristina Baucom of FL and Michelle Baucom-Keller and her husband Nathan of Mendon, IL; a daughter-in-law Penny Westerman of Plainville, IL; grandchildren, Parker, Paige & Claire Westerman, Kassidy & Kallie Westerman, Oliver Keller, Bentlee, Baylee & Blain Faught; cousins, Cathie (Jerry) Fleming, formerly of Liberty and Rosemary Bunte of Quincy; and his best canine-friend, Molli also survives.

He was preceded in death by his parents and a son, Ric Westerman.

Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, August 16, 2016 at 10:00 a.m. at The Crossing. Interment will be in Greenmount Cemetery with military honors conducted at the cemetery. Visitation will be held on Monday evening from 4:00 until 7:00 p.m. at The Crossing. Memorials may be made to Great River Honor Flight or to the Blessing Cancer Center. The Duker & Haugh Funeral Home is handling the arrangements.

    I have known Dean since second grade at Washington School. He always had a smile and something nice to say about everyone. My mother, my aunt and his mother spent many years in PTA. He will be missed by family and friends. God’s blessings to the family and friends. Our prayers and thoughts are with the family.

    Dean and the owners at Coach House gave me my first job! Many memories and learning experiences were gained while working there and I’m grateful for them all. My deepest sympathies to Dean’s family and friends. He will be missed!

    Knew Dean from about 3rd grade and was honored to spend some time with Dean in the military. Can’t remember an an unkind word from Dean in those 60 years.
