Alvera J. Maas

Alvera J. Maas, age 96, of the St. Vincent Home, formerly of 2820 Lind, passed away peacefully in her sleep on Friday, November 16, 2012 in Blessing Hospital surrounded by her family. She was born on August 11, 1916 in Quincy the daughter of August and Elizabeth (Schulte) Zehnle. She married Harold G. Maas on August 30, 1941. He preceded her in death in 1966. Alvera worked at the Modern Dairy for many years. She was also a Bus Driver for the Quincy Public Schools. She later worked at Moorman Manufacturing in the Cafeteria until her retirement in 1983.

Alvera was a loving mother, grandmother and great-grandmother who is already being missed by everyone who loved her. She enjoyed traveling, cooking, bingo and playing cards. Alvera had an amazing ability to brighten everyone’s day. She enjoyed making people laugh and putting them at ease.

She is survived by: FOUR CHILDREN: William “Bill” Maas and his wife Judi of Quincy; Alice Meckes and her husband Michael of Kansas City, MO; David Maas and his wife Wendy of Quincy and Roger Maas of Quincy.
GRANDCHILDREN: Greg Shankland; Kathy Shankland; Linda Shankland, Curt Maas and his wife Kim, Craig Maas and his wife Jennifer; Brandi Grosdidier, Julie Perry and her husband Vance, Connie Lobina and her husband Sam; Cindy Lloyd and her husband Tony; Lori Obermark and her husband Jason; Gretchen Overstreet and her husband John; John Meckes, Matt Meckes, Lisa Pritchard and her husband Charles; Mary Meckes; Andrew Maas and his wife Ashley and Zachary Maas.
Numerous great-grandchildren
A SON-IN-LAW: Richard Shankland Jr. and his wife Daryl
A SISTER: Rita Heming.
Many nieces, nephews and other relatives also survive.

In addition to her husband, She was preceded in death by a daughter, Carolyn Shankland and a grandchild Corbin Shankland.

Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, November 20, 2012 at 9:30 AM in the Duker & Haugh Funeral Home and at 10:00 AM in St. Francis Catholic Church. Interment in Calvary Cemetery. Visitation will be held on Monday evening from 4:00 until 7:00 PM with a prayer service at 6:30. Memorials may be made to St. Francis Church or School, St. Vincent Home or to Transitions of Western Illinois.
