Alvera Damhorst Obituary
Alvera Damhorst, 97, a resident at Santa Marta Health Services in Olathe, KS died at the facility on Tuesday, February 14th 2017. Alvera was born August 10, 1919 in Quincy, Illinois to George and Agnes (Till) Herold. She graduated from Notre Dame High School and attended Gem City Business College. She married Elwyn “Mike” Damhorst on August 28, 1948 in Quincy, Illinois. He preceded her in death on December 5, 1991.

Alvera worked at Gardner Denver. She owned and operated Mi Lady’s Maternity Shop on Maine Street in downtown Quincy. She closed the shop and retired in the early 1980’s.

Family always took precedence with Alvera. Her nieces and nephews have fond memories of time spent with their aunt. She served as the leader of her daughter’s Girl Scout troop at St. Peter’s School and was involved at Notre Dame High School. Alvera took great joy in her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was a member of St. Peter’s Parish.

She is survived by:
Her daughter, Michaelyn (Bill) Podany, her grandchildren, Bob (Christina) Podany and Anne
(Chris) Albrecht, and her great-grandchildren, Cedric and Clara Podany. She is also survived by many beloved nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews.

Alvera’s pallbearers will be Ken Klauser, Todd Klauser, Drew Klauser, Noah Klauser, Scott Klauser and Robert Podany.

She was preceded in death by:
Her parents, her husband, and two sisters, Alvina “Dolly” Herold and Marion Beals

A Mass of Christian Burial will take place on Monday, February 20 2017 at 10:30 at St. Peter’s Church, with Monsignor Leo Enlow celebrant. Interment will be in Calvary Cemetery. Visitation will be Monday at St. Peter’s from 10:00 AM until the time of the service. Memorials can be made to St. Peter’s School.     I remember Mrs Damhorst sl well. She was a real lady and kind to all of Michaelyns friends even when we stayed up really late at bunking parties

    What a great lady Alvera was. I am going to be out of town and will be unable to attend the services. My thoughts and prayers will be with you and your family.
