Alma Ilene Shoemate
Alma Ilene Shoemate, age 85, of 1324 N. 4th St., Quincy, died on Tuesday, December 4, 2012 in her home. She was born August 23, 1927 in Lima, IL a daughter of Raymond and Opal (Shaffer) Bloyd. She married Leroy Hartsock on March 16, 1957 and he passed away February 25, 1990. She married William “Bill” Shoemate on July 3, 1997 and he passed away July 24, 2008.
Alma was a waitress for 50 years, and for thirty of those she was at Elder’s Family Restaurant. She had a passion for reading, gardening and crafts. She was a talented seamstress and hand-made gifts for all of her grandchildren and her daughters.
Alma loved to travel, and spending time with her family and friends. She was an avid shuffleboard player, she canned vegetables and would do whatever was needed to get a job done. She had roofed a house, finished concrete and built walkways, to name a few of her accomplishments.
Survivors include her three daughters, Cheryl Wilson of Keokuk, IA; Diana Finley of Indianapolis, IN and Vicki Clark of Quincy; two step-children, William “Billy” Shoemate of Quincy; Carol Dodd of Hamilton, IL.
A sister, Gloria Garlock of Davenport, IA;
Seven grand-daughters, Gina Wilson of Keokuk, IA; LeRon Schuckman of Tuscola, IL;
Danelle Monroe of Sweetwater, TN; Brigett Patterson of Bedford, TX; Dana Boone of Ft. Madison, IA; Brandie Seybold and Diana “Chrissy” Clark both of Indianapolis.
Five Step Grandchildren, Alex and Sara Shoemate of Quincy, Alexis, Jamie and Matt Dodd of Hamilton, IL; Seven great-great grandchildren and nieces and nephews also survive.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husbands, two brothers, Larry and Raymond Bloyd and a sister, Betty Jo Leffler.
Funeral services will be held on Thursday, December 6, 2012 at 11:00 a.m. in the Duker & Haugh Funeral Home by Major Doreen Jennings. Interment will be in Sunset Cemetery. Visitation will be Thursday from 10:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m. at the funeral home. Memorials are suggested to the Salvation Army or to the St. Vincent DePaul Society. www.dukerandhaugh.com
