Allen Theodore Peters, age 62, of Quincy, died on Sunday, December 26, 2021 in the Good Shepard Nursing Home in Golden, IL. Allen was born on February 8th, 1959 in Quincy, Illinois, the son of Charles and Carlene (Obert) Peters. Allen attended school through the Quincy Public School System at Franklin, Jackson and Washington Schools in the Special Education Program. He graduated in 1980 from Quincy Junior High School. He was also an active participant in the Special Olympics Program. In later years, Allen worked at Hy-Vee on Harrison in the deli department and at Transitions.

Allen was preceded in death by his parents, Charles and Carlene Peters, brothers: Marty and Clyde Peters,
great-nephew Ezra Derhake, maternal grandparents, Edward and Edith Obert and paternal grandparents Wilbert and Edith Peters.

He is survived by his brothers and sisters: Shirley (Bruce) Hoelscher of O’Fallon, MO; Rodney (Marsha) Peters of Hannibal, MO; Mike (Susie) Peters, Rita (Ronnie) Genenbacher all of Quincy; Sheila (Mark) Damon of New London, MO; Shelly (Rick) Evans, Rhonda (Terry) Bower, Tony Peters, Bo (Susan) Peters and a Sister in law: Janet Peters all of Quincy. Numerous nieces, nephew, great-nieces, great-nephews and other relatives also survive.

Allen loved riding his bike all over Quincy visiting with friends and meeting new people. He enjoyed swimming in the family pool, working beside his mother in the yard, and spending time at the family camp, Lake of the Oaks near Canton, MO. Camp was one of his favorite places to be. He loved floating in the lake for hours, laying on the beach watching the kids play and diving for clams. One of his favorite accomplishments was riding his bike with his brother Marty 37 miles to camp. Allen also loved singing and dancing to Elvis songs. He loved motorcycles and eating ice cream with one favorite spoon.

Allen was a member of Blessed Sacrament Church. He loved attending Mass there every Sunday. You would find him sitting at the end of a pew so he could high-five everyone as they came back from communion.

Allen was an inspiration to many people. He was one of the kindest and most selfless people you could ever meet. He meant so much to his family and will be greatly missed, but we know Allen is already an angel because of how he lived his life on earth.

There is no one quite like Allen and if you were lucky enough to have known him, you would know how truly special he was. He is one of God’s greatest gifts to us all.

Funeral services will be held on Friday, December 31, 2021 at 10:00 AM in the Duker & Haugh Funeral Home at 10:30 AM in Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church. Interment in Calvary Cemetery. Visitation will be held on Thursday, December 30, 2021 at Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church from 4:00 until 7:00 PM. Memorials may be made to Blessed Sacrament School, The Quincy Public Schools Special Education Program or to the Quincy’s Children Museum. The Duker & Haugh Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
