Allan E. DeVerger

Sunday, February 10, 2013, at 10:50 p.m., Allan E. DeVerger, 63, of Quincy, left this world in the arms of the angels to be with his heavenly father and savior after losing his brave battle with cancer.

Allan was born August 13, 1949 in Charleston, MO, the son of Eugene and Eloise (Phillips) DeVerger. He married Linda Marie Claus on February 10, 1968, in Quincy. She survives and cherishes 45 years of wonderful memories.

A graduate of Payson-Seymour High School and Quincy Technical College, Allan worked as a draftsman for Monogram Stove Company until he proudly served his country in the U.S. Army. Serving from 1968 until 1970, Allan earned 3 bronze stars and the Republic of Vietnam Gallantry Cross with Palm Unit Citation. He retired in 2009 from Burlington Northern Railroad where he had worked as a switchman conductor for over 38 years.

Allan was a member of the BNSF Club. He loved being a husband, dad and grandpa. He enjoyed going to casinos, collecting swords, watching sci-fi movies, playing checkers, and working in his yard. Allan never knew a stranger and always went out of his way to be kind to others, helping in any way he could.

In addition to his wife, Allan is also survived by his son, Chad (wife Shana) DeVerger and granddaughter, Sofia DeVerger all of East Peoria; his mother, Eloise DeVerger; sister Debra Webster; and brother, Clifford (wife Patti) DeVerger all of Quincy; and several aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, and cousins.

He was preceded in death by his father.
