Alice Lillian Leapley
Alice Lillian Leapley, age 102, of Timber Point Healthcare Center, Camp Point, IL, formerly of Liberty, died on Monday, September 16, 2013 in the home. She was born on September 2, 1911 in Clayton, IL, a daughter of Floyd Edward & Elizabeth A. (Walker) DeWitt. She married William K. Leapley on August 24, 1935 in the Church of the Brethren, Liberty. He preceded her in death on August 15, 1986.
Alice was a graduate of both Liberty High School and Quincy High School. Mrs. Leapley was an LPN, working at the Hillcrest Sanitarium in Quincy, Blessing Hospital and Grandview Manor Nursing Home prior to her retirement in 1975. Alice was a former long-time member of the Church of the Brethren in Liberty and a present member of Zion Lutheran Church in Liberty. Alice was previously a member of the New Hope Baptist Church in Oakford, IL. Alice was very involved over the years. She enjoyed quilting, gardening, crocheting, bowling, playing cards and writing poetry. She was a member of the WCTU in Liberty, the Liberty Historical Society, the Liberty Senior Club, the Adams County Farm Bureau, the Home Extension of Adams County, the Ladies Improvement League, the Adams County Church Women United and the East Union Community Club. Alice was also a volunteer for the Red Cross of Adams County for many years.
She is survived by:
THREE CHILDREN: Kenneth Leapley and his wife Nancy of Liberty, IL, Linda Kill and her husband Dale of Clayton, IL and Janet Leebold and her husband Larry of Payson, IL;
DAUGHTER IN LAW: Barbara Leapley of Quincy.
12 GRANDCHILDREN: Jane Ellen Tjaden and her husband Jim; Rose Anne Barry and her husband Ronald, Mary Ruth Phillips and her husband Roger; Dennis Leapley, John Leapley and his wife Mary Kay; Travis Leapley and his wife Dana; Jason Leapley and his wife Dionne; Jeff Kill and his wife Angela; William Kill and his companion Vicky; Elizabeth Smith and her husband Ronald; Angela Steinkamp and her husband Tim and Melinda Pryor and her husband Lee.
2 STEP-GRANDCHILDREN: Dana Ashenbrenner and Lera Whitaker and her husband Jeff.
37 Great Grandchildren, 3 step-great grandchildren; 11 great-great grandchildren and 1 step- great-great grandchild.
A BROTHER: Floyd DeWitt and his wife Dorothy.
Lots of special nieces, nephews, cousins and other relatives also survive.
In addition to her husband, William, she was preceded in death by a son John Ed Leapley, a granddaughter, Maria Ann Leapley, a great-grandson, Austin John Leapley and a great-granddaughter Roslin Renee Kill.
Funeral services will be held on Friday, September 20, 2013 at 1:00 PM in Zion Lutheran Church in Liberty. Interment in the Walker-Williams Cemetery near Liberty. Visitation will be held on Thursday evening from 4:00 until 7:00 at the Duker & Haugh Funeral Home in Quincy. Memorials may be made to the Zion Lutheran Church, the Walker-Williams Cemetery Fund or to the Charity of the Donor’s Choice.

Alice was such a sweet lady it was an honor and a privilege to get to know her and to love her. I will truly miss her but I will also remember all the good times we had together at family get together’s she could always make you laugh and make you smile.
