Alice A. Johnson, 93 of Quincy, IL went to her eternal reward the afternoon of Sunday, August 6, 2017. She was born February 12, 1924 in Des Moines, IA. Alice was the third of ten children born to Charles and Rose (Engels) Hopkins.

She was married to Joseph V. Burke of Pueblo, CO. After living in Colorado for several years, she returned to Quincy to raise her two daughters. Alice was always a hard worker. She had worked at W.T. Grant, then at the Walton Plant of Gardner Denver in the Methods Department, retiring in 1987.
She married Wayne E. Johnson of Barry, IL on March 6, 1971. He preceded her in death on April 15, 1975. Alice continued living in Barry, IL until returning to Quincy in 1987.
She was previously a member of Quincy’s St. John the Baptist Church, and Holy Redeemer Catholic Church in Barry. She currently was a member of St. Francis Catholic Church and in her later years, frequently attended St. Peter Catholic Church.

Alice had many hobbies: she sang in choirs, participated in water exercise, especially in the warm pool at Good Samaritan Home. Thank you, Maggie, Della, and good friend Geri for keeping her active. She was a knitter, a seamstress and she made many rosaries for St. Francis Catholic Church. She made Teddy Bears, enjoyed doing jigsaw puzzles, making candy, gardening and many more activities. Alice was a diehard St. Louis Cardinal fan. Alice’s greatest joy was her family, whom she referred to as “GG’s Garden”.

Survivors include two daughters: Linda (Ed) Berry and Kathy (Mike) Kovachevich all of Quincy.
Grandchildren: Craig (Kelly) Berry of Ballwin, MO; Tammy (Rob) Hearn of Springfield, IL; Barbara (Dick) McTucker of Barry, IL; Susan (Joe) Wasson of Naperville, IL. Great-Grandchildren: Mason and Reid McTucker; Quinn and Reese Berry; Hunter and Alison “Ali” Hearn; Jack and Sydney Wasson. A brother, Richard Hopkins of Quincy; Two sisters, Mary Hilfrink of Quincy, and Margaret (Carroll) Hippen of Roseville, IL. Also surviving are a cousin, Joyce Dolinar and numerous nieces and nephews.
Beside her husband she was preceded in death by her sisters, Patricia Hopkins, Louise Lisenbee’ Rosemary McLain; a brother Robert “Bob” Hopkins and two sisters in infancy, Ruth Ann and Doris Mae. Brothers and sisters-in-law, Ada Hopkins, Kenneth Lisenbee, Morris “Mac” McClain; Charles Hilfrink and Rita Hopkins.
The family would like to acknowledge the phenomenal care and support given by the Dialysis Team of Quincy Medical Group; Blessing Hospice and all-of the staff of Good Samaritan Home.

Funeral services will be held on Thursday, August 10, 2017 at 11:00 a.m. in the Duker & Haugh Funeral Home with a Mass of Christian Burial at 11:30 a.m. in St. Francis Solanus Catholic Church by Rev. Duc Pham, O.F.M. Interment will be in Calvary Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.
