Alfred Henry Duesterhaus
Alfred Henry Duesterhaus, age 93, of 2202 Cherry Lane, died Wednesday, April 30, 2014 in Sunset Home. Alfred was born on June 2, 1920 in Quincy, a son to Mathew and Caroline (Nuessen) Duesterhaus. He married Evelyn Rossmiller on May 10, 1947 in St. Joseph Catholic Church. She survives. Alfred and Evelyn have lived in the same home that Alfred was born in for sixty-six years.
Alfred served in the Army during World War II, 1942-1945. He was a salesman for Moorman Mfg. Company for twenty-five years before retiring in 1982. Alfred was also a farmer for many years.
Alfred attended Blessed Sacrament Church. He was a member of the St. Vincent DePaul Society and served on the Board of the Roman Catholic Cemetery Association. He was also a member of the Eagles Club, the Knights of Columbus, and was a member of many farm organizations.
In addition to his wife he is also survived by; a son, John (Yvonne) Duesterhaus of Quincy and a daughter, Sherri (Kent) Thompson of Quincy; five grandchildren; Alan Thompson, Mark (Kristina) Thompson, Shay (Tim) Cassidy, Kara (Scott) Haden and Adam Duesterhaus; four great-grandchildren, Ross & Kyle Thompson and Mason & Noah Haden.
Numerous nieces and nephews also survive.
Alfred was preceded in death by his parents, three brothers, Clarence and Virgil Duesterhaus and Herbert Duesterhaus in infancy, and four sisters, Bertha Edmonds, Eleanor Duesterhaus, Leona Grawe and Irene Duesterhaus in infancy.
Funeral services will be held on Monday, May 5, 2014 at 9:30 a.m. in the Duker & Haugh Funeral Home and at 10:00 a.m. in Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church. Interment in Calvary Cemetery with military rites conducted at the cemetery. Visitation will be held on Sunday evening from 4:00 – 7:00 p.m. at the Duker & Haugh Funeral Home. Memorials may be made to Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church, Blessed Sacrament School or Quincy Notre Dame.
