Alfred G. Maple
Alfred G. Maple, age 90, of rural Liberty, Illinois, died on Friday, January 20, 2017 in his home. He was born on June 16, 1926 in Canton, Missouri the son of Archibald Maple and Fern (Hedrick) Maple. He was first married to Ada Pauline Butler and together they had three daughters and a son, Alfred, Jr.
He later married Janice C. Harvey on June 13, 1967 in Springfield, Illinois. She survives.
Mr. Maple was employed by the Army Corps of Engineers as a Locksman. He worked mostly at Lock & Dam 21. Mr. Maple retired in 1981 after 39 years of employment. He served in the US Navy in World War II in the South Pacific.
Al enjoyed spending time with family, ham radio, boating, playing table tennis and being outdoors. He was a gifted fixer of all things, he liked working on electronics and was a lifelong learner.
In addition to his wife Janice, survivors include his children, Carl (Monica) Maple, Fredric (Cindy) Maple all of Liberty; Elaine (Wayne) Weisheit of Quincy; Sharon Teitel of Scottsdale, AZ and Judy (Donnie) Shepard of Payson, IL. A daughter-in-law, Debbie Potts of Ursa, IL; grandchildren, Bobby Hadsell of Columbia, MO; Christine Johnson of Normal, Il; Craig Schumacher of West Dundee, IL and Jay Schumacher of St. Charles, IL and their dad, Alan Schumacher of Elgin, IL; Dusty Smeltser of Canton, MO; Donnie Shepard of Denver, CO; Adam Maple of Hunnewell, MO and Travis Maple of Ursa, Il; Emily and Evan Maple; Logan and Madison Maple all of Liberty, IL;
16 Great-Grandchildren and 2 Great-Great grandchildren also survive along with many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, Raymond Morrison and Archie Maple, and his son Alfred G. Maple, Jr.
Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, January 24, 2017 at 10:00 a.m. at St. Brigid Church. Interment in Quincy Memorial Park with military honors conducted at the cemetery. Visitation will be held on Monday evening from 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM in the Duker and Haugh Funeral Home with Prayers at 3:30 PM. There will be a visitation Tuesday at 9:30 a.m. until time of the service at St. Brigid. Memorials may be made to St. Brigid Catholic Church or Blessing Hospice.

Sorry for your loss. Always enjoyed table tennis with Al. Also if we had anything we couldn’t fix Al usually could. He will be missed.
