Albert F. “Bud” Sohn

Albert F. “Bud” Sohn, age 95, passed away on Wednesday, June 26, 2024 in Blessing Hospital. Bud was born on February 26, 1929 to Albert and Catherine (Timpe) Sohn. He married Joyce Mitchell on September 3, 1955. She preceded him in death on April 25, 2023.

Bud was a veteran of the United States Army and bravely served in the Korean War. He received a Korean Service Medal, an Artillery Combat Badge, and two Bronze Stars for his honorable service. Later he would be instrumental in renaming a stretch of Highway-24 “Veterans Medal of Honor Highway”, a testament to all who have served our country.

Bud would go on to work in construction as an operating engineer for Local #965. After retirement he worked at the Knights of Columbus driving range and drove cars for local auto dealerships. He was a long-standing member of the North Side Boat Club and the South Side Boat Club. When he wasn’t working or socializing, Bud could be found playing golf, a pastime he enjoyed until the very end. He was also a member of the American Legion Post #37. His family will fondly remember his singing voice, particularly when he sang songs by his favorite artist Daniel O’Donnell.

Bud is survived by:
TWO CHILDREN: Catherine Moore (Kenneth) of Alpharetta, Georgia and Scott Sohn of Quincy.
TWO GRANDCHILDREN: Colin Moore and Kaitlyn Moore.
Numerous nieces, nephews and other relatives also survive.

In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by his siblings, Emil Sohn, Harold Sohn, Leroy Sohn, Ruth Lohman, and Charlotte Neuman.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, June 29, 2024 at 9:00 a.m. at the Duker and Haugh Funeral Home with a Mass of Christian Burial to follow at 9:30 a.m. at Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church. Interment in Quincy Memorial Park with military rites conducted at the cemetery by American Legion Post #37. Visitation will be held on Friday, June 28, 2024 from 4:00 PM until 7:00 PM at the Duker & Haugh Funeral Home. Memorials may be made to the Great River Honor Flight. The Duker & Haugh Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.

    Fondly remember visiting Uncle Bud and Aunt Joyce when I was a youngster. RIP
