Albert B. Ulm

Albert B. Ulm, age 91, of 1707 No. 12th St., Quincy, died on Monday, October 1, 2012 in Blessing Hospital. He was born on April 19, 1921 in London Mills, IL, a son of Edwin & Belva (Blanford) Ulm. He married Helen G. Wann on November 28, 1943 in Bonne Terre, MO. She survives.

Albert was a graduate of London Mills High School, Brown’s Business School in Peoria, IL and the University of Illinois in Champaign-Urbana. He had also completed additional coursework at Marquette and Washington Universities.

He served four years (June 1942 – June 1946) in the United States Coast Guard, enlisting as an Apprentice Seaman, and served aboard the U.S.S. Sellstrom. He was honorably discharged as Chief Yeoman.

Following 34 years in the Veterinary and Bio-Health Research Departments at Moorman Mfg. Company, he retired in 1985. He was previously employed by Allis Chalmers in Peoria, IL and Cudahy Bros. Meat Packing in Milwaukee, WI.

Albert was a member, previous president and long-time secretary of the Liberty Lions Club and a member of the American Legion Post 640, both in Liberty, IL. He and his wife were members of Faith Presbyterian Church in Quincy for more than 50 years.

In addition to his wife, Helen, he is survived by a son Jim Ulm and his wife Jane of Quincy; a daughter Linda Ulm of Corydon, IN; two granddaughters, Jennifer (Willie) McArtor of Edwardsville, IL and Emily Ulm of Quincy; a great granddaughter, Madison McArtor and a step-granddaughter, Nicole Rabe of New York, NY; and a sister, Florabelle Liu of Skokie, IL.

He was preceded in death by his parents and two sisters, Bernita Wang and Arleta Butcher.

Funeral services will be held on Thursday, October 4, 2012 at 11:30 a.m. in Faith Presbyterian Church. Visitation will be Thursday morning from 10:30 to 11:30 at Faith Presbyterian Church by the Rev. Rodney J. Bakker. Interment with military honors conducted by the American Legion Post #37 and the Illinois National Guard Military Funeral Detail in Quincy Memorial Park.
