Judith E. “Judy” McPhail, age 82, of Quincy IL, died on September 27, 2026 in HSHS St. Johns Hospital, Springfield, IL. She was born on February 21, 1944, the daughter of Walter and Eula (Arment) Perkins.

Judy attended the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints in Quincy, where she served as a member of the women’s Relief Society.

Judy graduated from Lewistown High School in 1964. She then married James R. McPhail in 1967. Judy then graduated from Flamingo Beauty College in Quincy, Illinois in 1973 and went on to become a hairdresser. She worked at Headquarters Styling Salon and the Beauty Box. For a time she also maintained her own salon. After retiring from years as a hairstylist, Judy enjoyed working at Ayerco on 24th and State, where her face greeted many people for many years.

Judy loved spending time with her grandchildren and great grandchildren. She also enjoyed crafts, sewing, knitting, crocheting as well as being an avid reader and dedicated genealogist. She loved collecting snow globes and anything Coca Cola. Christmas window shopping was a favorite pastime of hers.

Judy is survived by her children: Brenda McPhail Edwards of Houston, TX, Carol McNeff of Clayton, IL; Step-sons: Eldred “Mac” McPhail of Springfield, MO and Ross McPhail of Salt Lake City, UT; Grandchildren: Katelynn Sparks of Houston, TX. and Dustin Edwards of Quincy, IL; Great-grandchildren: Aranea Sparks of Houston, TX and Payton Edwards of Quincy, IL.

Judy was preceded in death by her parents, a great-grandchild Josie Edwards, and a brother Larry Perkins.

Cremation rites have been accorded. A private family service will be held in Texas at a later date.
