Anita Marie Steinway, age 69, of Quincy, died on September 15, 2026, in her home. She was born on July 10, 1957, in Quincy, the daughter of Richard and Joan (Durand) Dietrich. She married Fred J. Steinway on February 26, 1983, in St. Boniface Catholic Church. He survives.

She was a Class of 1975 Notre Dame graduate. Anita was a member of St. Francis Catholic Church.

The oldest of five children, Anita held a special place in her family. Just shy of five feet tall, she may have been small in stature, but she had an enormous spirit. Her caring nature and determination were evident throughout her life, particularly in the way she devoted herself to others.

Anita dedicated much of her life to caring for and supporting individuals with developmental disabilities. She worked as an Activities Director at local nursing homes and group homes before joining DD Homes, Inc., where she devoted 25 years as a Direct Support Professional. She was a passionate advocate and champion for Special Olympics and also led the local Girl Scout Troop for persons with disabilities. Anita had a natural calling to work with individuals with developmental disabilities, and her compassion, patience, and genuine love for those she served touched countless lives.

She was very involved in all her daughter’s activities and took great joy in being there for the moments that mattered. Anita enjoyed crafting and decorating every single holiday. She also shared in the family tradition of delivering newspapers for Quincy News, Inc.

Anita will be remembered for her caring heart, her devotion to her family, and the joy she found in helping others and celebrating life.

In addition to her husband, Anita is survived by her daughter Janetta Steinway of Quincy.

Sisters: Barb Holthaus and her fiancé Michael Maas and Tracey Boll and her husband Brad.

Sister-in-law: Becky (Joe) Housman and Brother-in-law: Ed (Laura) Steinway.

Many nieces, nephews, and cousins also survive.

Anita was preceded in death by her parents, brothers Daniel and Edward Dietrich, father and mother-in-law Emmett and Roberta Steinway.

Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, September 22, 2026 at 9:30 a.m. at the Duker and Haugh Funeral Home followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 a.m. at St. Francis Catholic Church. Interment in Calvary Cemetery. Visitation will be held on Monday, September 21, 2026 from 4:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. at the Duker and Haugh Funeral Home. Memorials are suggested to the JWCC College for Life Program (JWCC Foundation), St. Francis Church, or Quincy Notre Dame. Service arrangements are with the Duker and Haugh Funeral Home.
