Jim S. Smith
Jim S. Smith, age 73, died on Friday, July 10, 2026, in his home. He was born October 25, 1952, in Quincy, Illinois, the son of William and Ruby Mae (Milhauser) Smith. He was the 16th of 19 children.
He attended Camp Point High School and graduated in 1970. Jim then went on to Quincy Technical College where he earned a draftsman degree in 1971.
Jim was employed by Moorman Manufacturing Company for many years and upon retirement started Jim’s Lawn Care. He was known to be an incredibly hard worker and worked until Wednesday, July 8, 2026 of this week.
Jim believed in fostering young people and spent many years involved in Boy Scouts of America where he served as a scout leader. He spent years coaching YMCA Boys Baseball. Jim was an avid baseball lover and loyal Chicago Cubs fan. Family was everything to him, he held great pride in his children. That pride extended to his beloved four granddaughters, great grandson, and the additional precious life that is on their way.
He loved spending the day at the golf course, the sport quickly became a favorite past time of his. Jim also loved to dance…you couldn’t keep him off the dance floor once the music started. He often would take his older sister Margaret to dances that were hosted by the Quincy Senior Center.
Jim is survived by his daughter Kelley Elsie (Jeff) of Quincy, IL; and a daughter-in-law Christina Smith (fiancé Jason) of Quincy, IL. Grandchildren: Abigail Roderick (Spencer); Paige Smith (fiancé Zach); Belle Elsie; and Paxton Smith. Great grandchildren: Layne Roderick; and baby on the way Lewis James Roderick. He is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews including Gary Joe Neisen (Tara), Jon Neisen (Trish), and Tina Boyd (Steve) and nine of his siblings.
Jim was preceded in death by his parents, nine brothers and sisters, and son Eric Smith.
Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, July 15, 2026, at 1:00 PM in the Duker & Haugh Funeral Home. Visitation will be held on Wednesday, July 15, 2026, 12:00 PM until time of service in the funeral home. Memorials may be made to Quest Stables. The Duker & Haugh Family Home is in charge of the arrangements.
