Eugene “Gene” Henry Venvertloh
Eugene “Gene” Henry Venvertloh, age 85, of Quincy, died on Thursday, June 25, 2026 in Blessing Hospital.
Gene was born on July 18, 1940, the son of William “Pete” and Hilda Vonderheide Venvertloh. He married Margie C. Hildebrand on May 12, 1962 in St. Francis Catholic Church in Quincy. She survives.
Gene attended St. John’s Grade School and Notre Dame High School, graduating in 1958. He completed basic training at Fort Leonard Wood and served in the U.S. Army Reserves. He enjoyed playing fast-pitch softball.
He was employed by Refreshment Services Pepsi for 45 years, advancing from route salesman to management. After retirement he was a courier for HomeBank, from 2014 to the present.
Family and faith were what mattered most to Gene. He was a member of St. Peter Catholic Church. He enjoyed attending his children’s and grandchildren’s athletic and musical events. He was a man of action, not words, and was always ready to lend a helping hand wherever needed.
Gene was a member of the Pepsi-Cola Collectors Club, and he and Margie attended the annual convention in Indianapolis, IN for over 20 years, making friendships with people from all over the country as well as buying and selling Pepsi memorabilia. He and Margie also enjoyed antiquing on weekends, as he searched for items for his large Pepsi collection.
He enjoyed keeping his lawn and landscaping meticulously maintained. For over 40 years he put up a large Christmas display in the front yard.
In addition to his wife, survivors include THREE CHILDREN: his daughter, Donna (Joseph) Goerlich, two sons, Dennis (Kathy) Venvertloh, and Duane (Julie) Venvertloh.
EIGHT GRANDCHILDREN: Emily Goerlich and Andrew Goerlich; Tara (Tyler) Robertson, Jacob (Ashley) Venvertloh, and Shelby (fiancé Paige Willer) Venvertloh; Dylan Venvertloh, Dalton (Bailee) Venvertloh, and Gavin Venvertloh.
SEVEN GREAT-GRANDCHILDREN: Nora, Luca, and Thea Robertson; Jace, Avery, and Harper Venvertloh; and Wrynlee Venvertloh.
He is also survived by two brothers, Ralph Venvertloh and Willie (Norma) Venvertloh; sisters-in-law Milly Venvertloh and Kathleen Venvertloh, Edie Ashemann, Dory Hildebrand, Marilyn Hildebrand, Carolyn Ankrom, and Peggy Kindhart; and brothers-in-law Paul Hildebrand, David (Mary Ann) Hildebrand, and Phil (Jeannie) Hildebrand. Numerous nieces and nephews also survive.
He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister in infancy; two brothers, Len Venvertloh and Walt Venvertloh; sisters-in-law Betty Venvertloh and Norm Hildebrand; and brothers-in-law Carl Aschemann, Alvin Hildebrand, Merle Hildebrand, Darrell Kindhart, and Jim Ankrom.
Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, July 1, 2026 at 9:30 a.m. at Duker & Haugh Funeral Home with a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 a.m. at St. Peter Catholic Church. Interment in Calvary Cemetery. Visitation will be held on Tuesday, June 30, 2026 from 4:00 PM until 7:00 PM at St. Peter Catholic Church. Memorials are suggested to St. Peter Catholic Church or Quincy Notre Dame High School. Service arrangements are with the Duker and Haugh Funeral Home.
