Randall “Randy” Jay Porter

Randall “Randy” Jay Porter, 74 of Quincy, IL passed away peacefully at home on June 17, 2026 surrounded by his wife Tammy, his children, and other family members. Randy was born in Hannibal, MO on February 8,1952 to Victor Porter Jr and Norma Jean (Shores) Porter. Randy attended and graduated from Quincy Senior High School. He studied for and received an engineering certificate from Lincoln Land Community College in Jacksonville IL. He also studied Diesel and Auto mechanics at Quincy Technical College.

Randy enlisted in the United States Air Force in 1971. He retired as a Sargent in 1974 due to an injury while in the service. He was an aircraft mechanic.

On November 4,1994 Randy married the love of his life, Tammy Forbes. Randy and Tammy are very family orientated. They spent many summers camping at Whispering Oaks Campground in their camper filled with their grandchildren and their friends. Randy was also an avid pool player in the tri-state area. He had many trophies and awards during that time. He also enjoyed hunting, fishing and working on vehicles and small engines.

Randy held his CDL throughout his adult life. Through his career he visited all 48 lower states. He hauled livestock for Homan Trucking for many years. He later drove for Sharkey Transportation for over a decade. He spent the later part of his life working at Stratas food, where he retired from. Although not a job, Randy built home for Habitat for Humanity in the Jacksonville area.

Randy touched many people through his giving a helping hand, advice or just a joke. Above everything else he did in his life he frequently said his greatest joy and accomplishment was being a PawPaw and Great PawPaw.

One Brother: Michael (Susan) Porter of Quincy, IL
Four sisters: Victoria (Roger) Sherwood, of LaGrange, MO Paula (David) Bradshaw of Mendon, IL, Patricia (Dave) Klapp of Galesburg, IL and Nikola (Kurt) Heiden of Independence, MO
Three sisters in-law: Maggie (Steve) Hatfield, Sis (Bruce) Kundert and Kimberly Knight all of Quincy, IL
One Brother in-law Michael Forbes of Quincy, IL
Grandchildren: Doneta(Will), Justin(Brittany), Kara (Gage), Randall William (Kaylie) Timothy Jr (Emily) Daniel, Timothy 3rd, Hope, Alania, Remyngtyn, Aliana, Levi, Shaunna, Jamie, Seth, Quentin, Mel, and one grandson to be born November. And 18 great grandchildren.

Randy was preceded in death by his parents Victor and Norma Porter, a son Matthew Porter,
a great grandson Rylan Bihn, twin brothers in infancy, Richard & Mitchel Porter, a niece Rachel Kennedy, a nephew Zacharia Palmer, two brothers in law Gary Woods and Patrick Forbes, and one sister in-law Fran Forbes

Graveside services will be held on Thursday, July 2, 2026 at 10:00 AM at the Illinois Veterans Home. Military rites to be conducted by the American Legion Post #37 Honor Detail and the United States Air Force Honor Detail. There is no visitation, but friends are invited to the graveside services. The Duker and Haugh Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
