Helen A. Chapman
Helen A. Chapman, age 84, of Liberty, IL, died on Friday, May 8, 2026 in Blessing Hospital. She was born on March 8, 1942 in Quincy, the daughter of Carl & Rose (Veile) Sohl. She married David Chapman on October 15, 1964. He survives.
Helen attended St. Francis Grade School and was a 1960 graduate of Notre Dame High School. Helen was later a graduate of the St. Mary School of Nursing and worked for a time as an RN. Helen was a Girl Scout when young, was a leader when her daughters became Girl Scouts and remained with the organization throughout her life. She also enjoyed bowling and camping, was a member of the Saddle Club and liked going to horse shows. She also spent a lot of years roller skating with the family. Helen was an avid quilter and quilted up to the very end of her life. She was a member of the ‘Sew Happy Quilters’ of Liberty, the Tuesday Quilters at John Wood Community College and the Quincy Quilters Guild. She was a loving grandmother and supported her kids, grandkids and great-grandkids in band, sports and all of their other endeavors.

CHILDREN: Angie Rost (John) of Liberty, IL; Becky Rost (Greg) of Quincy, IL; Bill Chapman (Lori) also of Quincy and Carla Chapman (Richie) of Payson.
GRANDCHILDREN: Cassie Berthoud (Robb); Alex Rost (Taylor), Charity Rost and John Rost II; Krissy Brunk (Jeremy), Nick Dyer, Zania Dyer, Zane Dyer (Yvette), Dawn Reich (Scott) and Amanda Shanahan (Keith); Zach Chapman (Madison), Jacob Chapman and Levi Chapman; Ricky Martin, Jordan Martin, and Harley Martin.
GREAT-GRANDCHILDREN: Hazel, Lain, Kaden, Lauren, Kaiser, Brayden, Bentley and Jude; Jaden, Gracey Helen, Jason, Natasha, Colton, Vincent, Paisley, Dante, Reylan, Kyndall, Kaitlyn, Aaron and Riley, Jacob and Jiselle.
Nephews, cousins and other relatives also survive.
Helen was preceded in death by her parents and a grandson Steven Rost.
A Visitation will be held on Wednesday, May 13, 2026 from 11:00 AM until 12:00 Noon at the Duker & Haugh Funeral Home. Graveside services will follow at 12:30 PM at Quincy Memorial Park Cemetery. Memorials may be made to Adams County Folks Care. The Duker & Haugh Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.

Helen was a gifted quilter and sweet lady. Her family will always have a part of her when they use the quilts she made them. Our sympathies and prayers are with the family.
The St, Mary Hospital community are remembering Helen as she walked the halls of St. Mary as a student nurse leaving her footprint on the St. Mary legacy. She will be added to our “Friends Remembered” book.

Helen was a very kind hearted woman and had been a loving grandmother to all of her grandkids and her great grandmother
It was always a joy to visit with Helen! She did a lot of good works just by talking to people as she worked at school! With a heavy heart, I have to tell you that I will not be able to attend the services tomorrow. My prayers and thoughts are with all of you!

I always enjoyed seeing your mom when I attended the quilt meetings in Camp Point. She was very talented and I know she passed that along.
I’m sad to realize we shared being nurses and she was a SMH graduate we could have had even more to visit about. May God sustain you with your faith, memories, quilts and pictures.
So sorry for your loss.
She was a beautiful quilter and will be missed.
