Eric Bruns

Eric (Brunzy) Bruns, age 55, of Quincy, IL, passed away on Saturday, March 28, 2026 in his home. Eric was born on July 13, 1970, in Quincy, the son of Robert and Nancy (Schwartz) Bruns Boone.

At the time of his death, he had served as superintendent of the historic Woodland Cemetery for nearly 10 years. Having a vision and passion for Woodland, he accomplished many improvements along with his right hand man, Fred. He marked graves with wooden crosses for those that had no stones.

Eric was a 1988 graduate of Central High School, having played basketball and other shenanigans. During high school he worked at Arrowhead Heights Golf Course and continued there after graduation. He was then hired at Illini Country Club in Springfield, IL, serving as grounds maintenance for the next 18 years.

Feeling a need for a change of scenery, he headed to Scottsbluff, NE and served as a grounds superintendent at a large hospital complex. Winter being harsh in Nebraska, he returned to Quincy in 2016.

Eric was an excellent cook. You could almost call him a gourmet chef.

Eric having never been married nor had children, he poured his love into his nieces and best friend’s son, Chase. It wasn’t above him to tease and harass the daylights out of his 3 nieces, and they dearly loved him for that. He also had a special relationship with Chase. Along with his best friend, they coached Chase’s E-Tiling Little League team. He encouraged Chase in his shooting sports and often watched him participate in trap shooting.

Eric never saw himself as above anyone, whether a CEO of a large corporation or the homeless person down the street. He was a friend to the downtrodden helping many over the years and never wanting anything in return.

He is survived by his mom, Nancy; his sisters: Becky (Rob) Minder and Cindy (Brian) Deason. Three nieces: Stephanie (Kameel) Al-Khouri, Aliana Minder and Grace Minder.

He is also survived by many many friends, his Uncle Michael Bruns and several other aunts and uncles.

He was preceded in death his father, Robert Bruns; stepfather, Norm Boone; Uncle Donald Bruns; Grandparents: Orville and Ruth Bruns, Merle Schwartz, and Naomi and Leonard Jergens; Uncles Phil Jackson, Dale Bordewick, Jim Koch, and Bill Adam.

He was also preceded by his faithful canine companions, Chopin, Cash & Remington.

Graveside services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, April 7, 2026, at Woodland Cemetery. Visitation will be held on Monday April 6, 2026, from 4:00 until 7:00 PM at Duker and Haugh Funeral Home. Memorials are suggested to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital or Woodland Cemetery Association. Service arrangements are with Duker & Haugh Funeral Home.

Eric was an amazing Man and my best friend. He was from day one when he started working at Regional West in Scottsbluff. He will be sadly missed by all of us here in Nebraska!

Hi Nancy, my niece Laurie Jansen sent me Eric’s obituary and I wondered if he was you and Bob’s son. Losing a child is something all parents dread. We aren’t supposed to outlive them. Please accept my deepest sympathies and condolences in Eric’s passing. It’s been many years since I’ve seen you but I cherish the memories I have when you and Bobby lived in Golden. I’m a retired teacher now and my wife Elizabeth and I have two adult children, Sara & Grant. My heart goes out to you and I pray God will help support you through your family and friends. Roger
