David H. George

David H. George, age 83, of Quincy, died on February 16, 2026 in his home. He was born on August 27, 1942 in Clinton, Illinois the son of Harold and Dorothy (Klar) George. David lived a life defined by adventure, honor, and a deep love for the world around him.

A proud veteran, David served his country in the United States Marine Corps during the Vietnam War. The discipline and ‘Semper Fi’ spirit he gained in the Marines stayed with him long after he returned home, though he traded the battlefield for the freedon of the open sky and the road.

David was a man of many passion, most of which involved speed and spirit. Whether he was in the cockpit as a pilot, behind the wheel of a corvette, or hitting the highway for a long ride on his Harley, he was always happiest in motion. When he slowed down, it was often to spend time with his horses or to enjoy the quiet company of his beloved cats. He found peace in the saddle and joy in the simple companionship of his animals.

He is survived by:
A sister-in-law: Janet Wester
Nieces and Nephews: Chris George, Cobi Zimmer (John) and Stacey Jones (Lance).

David was preceded in death by his parents, brothers Timothy George and Jonathan George and a niece, Stephanie Powell.

Cremation rites have been accorded. Private inurnment with military rites will take place at Sunset Cemetery of the Illinois Veterans Home with military rites conducted by the Marine Corps Honor Detail and the American Legion Post #37 Honor Detail.

A celebration of David’s life for family and friends will be held at a later date.

In honor of David’s diverse loves, the family suggests donations to the Semper Fi and America’s Fund or the Quincy Humane Society. The Duker & Haugh Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
