David Handley

David Handley, age 71, of Quincy, died on February 6, 2026 in Blessing Hospital. He was born on October 9, 1954 in Springfield, IL, the son of Ferrell “Friendly” Handley and Jane Crawford. He married Genesia Benavidez on October 31, 2005 in Canton, MO. She survives.

He retired from Transitions as a Crew Leader. He knew a lot about jewelry and was given the nickname Diamond Dave, and was known as a scientist. In his spare time, Dave enjoyed fixing up and driving muscle cars, especially his 1969 Chevy Nova.

Dave is survived by his children: Arinda Beaston of Quincy, Kurt Handley of Quincy, Stacy Handley, Bethany Handley, Sherlain Boyd, Dalton Handley.

Two step-children: Jimmy (Taylor) Porter of Hannibal, MO and Ashley Porter of Quincy.

Grandchildren: Aaron, Kristin, Kaitlyn, Maddy, Ryan, David, and Hannah; Bodhi, Oaklynn, Cooper, and Ellie; Rilee, Bentlee, and Kynlee.

Great-Grandchildren: Owen, Maddox, Carl, Layla, Raylee, Kylie.

A sister, Vicki Handley of Herrin, IL and sister-in-law, Penny Handley of Canton, MO. Nephew: Phillip (Amanda Nelson) Handley of Goodyear, AZ, and father-in-law John Handy of Quincy.

Dave was preceded in death by his parents, a brother, Ossie, and his mother-in-law, Belinda Handy.

“Be good, or be good at it” and “We may not have it together, but together we have it all” were two mottos that Dave lived by.

Cremation rites have been accorded. A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date. The Duker and Haugh Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
