Norman C. “Norm” Boone
“I’ve had a good life. I’ve got no complaints” were some of the final thoughts of a wonderful man, Norman (Norm) Boone who passed away Friday, January 9, 2026.
Norm was born and raised on a dairy and grain farm East of Plainville to Leo and Gladys (Weisinger) Boone on August 18, 1944.
After high school he worked for a time for Gardner Denver. On July 31, 1967 he married Brenda Mellon. On the frigid night that Royalty’s store in Camp Point burned, their daughter, Cindy, was born. During those years he worked for Moorman Manufacturing and had a horseshoe making business with his brother-in-law Rudy Hendricks. Norm was a black powder gun enthusiast; knowledgeable in subjects on history, especially the Civil War, and an antique car hobbyist having collected several.
It was in a 1935 Ford five window coup that he courted Nancy Schwartz Bruns. They married Dec 3, 1977. He then became the loving stepdad to Becky and Eric. Norm was an auto race fan. He and Nancy traveled all around the country watching car races. He attended the Indy 500 for 50 years while also attending NASCAR, sprint car and midget racing. He said he would watch a herd of turtles race if they were competitive.
Norm served his country for six years in the Army Reserves. They trained him to be a mechanic and made him a cook, he said. When he and Nancy met, he was a semi-truck driver for Carroll Hoagland trip leased to Sharkey Transportation. To be home more while the kids grew up, he drove for Kent Dickhut Trucking and ran his own welding, repair and fabrication shop. He then got the opportunity to work as a mechanic for Adams Electric Cooperative where he retired after 27 years. He also volunteered for the Camp Point Fire Department. Prior to his retirement, he and Nancy operated a fruit farm for the next 12 years.
Norm was a member in good standing of St. Brigid Catholic Church, having many good parishioner friends.
Norm is survived by his wife Nancy, his daughters Cindy (Brian) Deason of Anthem, AZ and Rebecca (Rob) Minder of Loami, IL, son Eric Bruns of Quincy, IL. Also surviving are his granddaughters Stephanie (Kameel) Al-Khouri of Phoenix, AZ, Aliana Minder of Loami, IL and Grace Minder of Phoenix, AZ. Surviving also is his favorite sister, Elaine Simon of Liberty, IL. Additional brothers and sisters-in-law are Terry (Jackle) Schwartz, Patty Adam, Diane (Brad) Schardon and John (Denise) Schwartz along with sisters-in-law June Hendricks and Connie Franklin with many nieces, nephews, cousins and a world of wonderful friends also surviving.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his first wife, his brothers and sisters -n law – Jim & Nancy Boone, Marvin & Barbara Boone, Roger & Rosalyn Boone, brothers in law – Loren Simon, Bill Adam, Rudy Hendricks and Monroe Franklin.
A Mass of Christian burial will be held on Friday, January 16, 2026, at 10:00 A.M. at St. Brigid Catholic Church with Rev. Scott Snider, officiant. Visitation will be held on Thursday, January 15, 2026, from 4:00 P.M. until 7:00 P.M. at St. Brigid Catholic Church. Interment in Shiloh Cemetery, east of Plainville. Memorials are suggested to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, Payson FFA Foundation, or St. Brigid Catholic Church. Aunt Nancy and family some Wonderful Memories of your Husband and Dad…
* Uncle Norman the daring race car driver; remembering Grandma (Gladys Boone, Norman’s Mom) worrying about her reckless youngest son racing cars; hoping he would not get hurt and not understanding what he seen in racing cars so fast…
* Uncle Norman playing fun games with his younger nephews between unloading wagons of square bales of hay and straw and putting into the various barn lofts…
* Uncle Norman and his convertible car with an open top; giving us all the ride of our lives out on the open highway and driving really fast!!! Uncle Norman had us raise our hands above our heads to catch the wind!
I enjoyed fun times at The Sweetheart Supper at St Brigid church for many years while Norm & Nancy did fun acts that had us laughing and I worked with Norm at Adams Electric too. Rest in peace Norm, Heaven is happy to welcome you!
Nancy, Cindy, Becky, and Eric with deepest sympathy on your loss.

Uncle Norms, quick wit would put a smile on anyone’s face… Something, The Boone’s are known for, Smiles, ear to ear… Uncle Norm was encouraging at a time that I needed it, and He was Proud of Everything, and Everyone!
Nancy and family our hearts and prayers are with you all. I’ve known Norm along time and was able to work with him at Adams Electric. We had serious conversations about a lot but my favorites where when we would tell each other jokes and laugh together. He has always been so big hearted and he will be missed! He had so many that will always think of him and smile❤️
