Albert L. Davis, Sr.

Albert L. Davis, Sr., age 97, passed away peacefully at home on January 3, 2026, in Quincy, IL. A lifelong resident of Quincy, Albert was born on August 4, 1928, and remained deeply rooted in the community throughout his life.

Albert dedicated many years of faithful service to Quincy Public Schools, where he worked diligently and retired in 1993 as Head Custodian. His commitment to his work and the pride he took in maintaining Quincy Junior High School left a lasting impression on those who knew him.

Beyond his professional life, Albert was known for his vibrant personality and love of simple pleasures. He found joy in pitching horseshoes, playing cards with friends and family, fishing on quiet afternoons, dancing with enthusiasm, and sharing colorful stories “from back in the day.” His storytelling brought laughter and warmth to countless gatherings over the years.

Albert also enjoyed quieter moments at home-maintaining his yard, working word search puzzles at the kitchen table or watching his favorite soap operas and classic westerns. These daily rituals reflected a man who appreciated both lively company and peaceful solitude.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Doris Smith; father, Eugene Davis; his first wife, Virginia Brooks Davis; daughters Janet Hawkins, Sharon Payne, and Mary Davis; and two sons, Albert Davis Jr. and Aaron Davis.

Albert leaves behind his loving wife, Genevieve Davis (Manley), who stood by his side with devotion. He is also survived by his children Geraldine Milsap, Victoria Horton, Steven Davis, Ronnie Davis, Eddie Clay, and Geneice Nash. His legacy continues through a host of grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, and nephews who will carry forward the memories of his humor, wisdom, and enduring love.

May Albert’s memory bring comfort to all who knew him and serve as a reminder of a life well lived in dedication to family, community, and joy in everyday moments.
