Thank you, Susan, for you lovely prayer for Mom. We know she is happy with God, Dad, family and friends forever! -Karen (Andrews) Myers (daughter)
My mom, Henrietta Buening was a good friend of your mother. She worked with her at Mormons for several years. My mom thought the world of your mom and dad. She always made a special effort to get your mom a Christmas card with The little drummer boy on it. They always stayed in touch until my mom passed in 1996. I’m sure they’re rekindling that friendship now up in heaven. I’m so very sorry for your loss.
Thank you, Mary Ann, for your kind words and this lovely tribute to Mom. Henrietta was always in her stories, and I know Mom loved her, too. Appropriately fitting, “The Little Drummer Boy” was playing in Mom’s room on her tape player when she passed at 1:45 a.m. Christmas morning! Such a beautiful send off as she met Dad in heaven! -Karen (Andrews) Myers, daughter

What a wonderful life full of service and love! I was one of her 4-H kids. I have some wonderful memories of those days. My condolences to you, Karen and your family. Barb (Frese) Scheufele
Thank you, Barb, for sharing your memories of Mom and 4-H! Mom definitely put her time and energy in to encouraging all of us “To Make the Best Better!” (4-H motto). We sincerely appreciate your kind words and condolences. -Karen
Your mother was such a special friend and influence in my life. Marg was like a mother to me, and she and Dan were so instrumental in my formation as a Secular Franciscan. I visited her a couple of times this past summer after moving back to Quincy. Unfortunately, she barely was able to remember me, but I will never forget her! So very devastated to hear of your loss, but heaven has definitely claimed one of its own.
Thank you, Rosanne, for sharing your kind words and loving memories of Mom. As you know, the Secular Franciscan life was instrumental to Mom and Dad. They both spoke highly of you and appreciated your friendship and your dedication to the Seculars. It makes us happy and proud to hear how Mom was like a mother to you. We are sure Mom and Dad are happy together in heaven — our personal angels, continuing to watch, guard, and guide all of us! -Karen
Thank you, Rich, for you kind and thoughtful words about Mom. She loved your mom and all the Duesterhaus “kids.” She was so proud of each one’s 4-H accomplishments and appreciated the contributions your family made to the Quincy community as well. Gratefully, Karen (Andrews) Myers, daughter
My very sincere condolences for Maureen, Karen and Patrick. You Mother was kindest, sweetest person. Loved her as my 4-H Leader and your family as neighbors. I have so many fond memories in 4-H and as playmates. Your mother was an amazing leader and friend to many people. Forever in the hearts and memories of those that had the privilege of knowing her. Your family was so very special to me.
Mary, thank you so much for sharing your fond memories of Mom as your 4-H leader. This certainly was her passion ever since her own days as a 4-H member. I remember her telling me that her 4-H members taught me to walk when I was a baby! Obviously, 4-H was in my world since I was born, and Mom was indeed an excellent leader and educator. We’re so glad you enjoyed your time with Mom and with us as neighbors and playmates. Such good memories! Karen
What an amazing woman with such a beautiful life of dedication and service and spirituality. I now understand so much more about where Patrick came from!! I send you all my heartfelt love and blessings as the family gathers for her funeral and burial.
Thank you, Anne. Mom was a role model for all of us — her children, family, friends, and anyone who crossed her path — continually demonstrating servant leadership throughout her entire life. We were blessed to learn from her! -Karen (Andrews) Myers, daughter
My sincere condolences to the Andrew’s family. As a classmate of Karen’s I remember spending time at the Andrew’s home for sleepovers as we prepared for high school speech contest and dance numbers for various musical programs. Mrs. Andrew’s was always welcoming and our biggest cheerleader. She was the sweetest lady ever and will be missed by many.
Jan, thank you so much for your kind words and wonderful memories of Mom! I agree, she and Dad were our biggest cheerleaders. I have such vivid memories of them both in the front row at plays, dance recitals, speech contests, 4-H events, etc., etc., enthusiastically applauding with huge smiles on their faces. Mom always got “into the spirit” when you and my other friends were at our house — laughing, singing, dancing, rehearsing, and, I’m sure, eating (especially chocolate mint ice cream!). I sincerely appreciate your condolences to our family! -Karen
Marg was such a wonderful mentor to me and friend to our family. When she started the Quincy Wonderettes she gave me the opportunity to be the junior leader, providing support and guidance as I took on that leadership role as a teenager. 4-H was an important part of my life growing up and allowed me the opportunity to live at 4-H House at the University of Illinois while attending college. This is a cooperative home where the girls perform all of the chores of cleaning and cooking for the girls who live there during their college days. I offer my condolences to her family.
Ruth Ann, thank you so much for sharing your thoughtful words and memories of Mom! The Duesterhaus family and its 4-Hers were always a big part of our family, too. Mom was so proud of all of you and continually used your family as examples to us, her own children. It was so nice to see your sisters at the funeral and catch up with them. Mom would love the idea of your memorial gift to the 4-H House in her name! What a wonderful way of celebrating her legacy! Gratefully, Karen (Andrews) Myers, Maureen (Andrews) O’Brien, & Patrick Andrews
We send our heartful greetings of love to all the family.
Ruth and Michael, thank you so much for your greetings of love to our family. We appreciate them! -Karen (Andrews) Myers, daughter
Such a special lady with a servant’s heart. Your Mom and Dad both had such a big impact on our family as kids through 4-H and beyond. I clearly remember her helping with Food Demonstrations and always Share the Fun act ideas that she came up with and directed, usually all the way to the State Fair! I think those were her favorite and I still remember some of them. She always had big ideas and knew how to inspire us to implement them! Your parents made a big impact on everyone they met and we are all better people because of them. I had the opportunity to visit with her last October when I was back in Quincy, when we once again ‘Shared the Fun’. She is forever in my heart 💝
I’m sorry for your loss 😢
Gail, thank you so much to you and the Stauffacher “kids” for sharing your lovely words and wonderful memories of Mom and Dad. Your mom and each one of you were very special to Mom. She was so proud of you all as 4-Hers and spoke highly of you as adults. She loved hearing from all of you through holiday and birthday cards, calls, and visits. I’m so glad you were able to be with her in person and “share the fun” with her. She really WAS a creative person, wasn’t she? Yet, every time we complimented her on her talents and skills, she’d brush them off. It’s been heartwarming to hear the many stories shared these past weeks of the impact Mom made on people’s lives. A life well-lived — with a servant’s heart –indeed! -Karen
