William Carpenter

William “Bill” Carpenter, 78, passed away peacefully at the hospital in Hannibal, Missouri. He was born on June 3, 1947, in Mt. Sterling, Illinois.

Bill spent much of his life working hard as a foundry worker, a job that reflected his grit, determination, and pride in a day’s work. Those who knew him best would tell you he was a stubborn cowboy at heart — strong-willed, loyal, and always ready to lend a hand to those he cared about.

He found his greatest peace in the saddle or outdoors, spending countless hours riding horses, hunting, and embracing the simple, honest life he loved. He also treasured time with his family, especially the laughter and friendly competition that came with a good game of UNO around the table.

Bill is survived by his wife, Donna Carpenter, who he loved dearly and gave the world to; his son, Todd Carpenter and his wife Elissa; his grandson Carson Carpenter, his stepson, Billy Fusselman and a sister Joyce . He was previously married to Beverly Carpenter who preceded him in death.

Bill was also preceded in death by numerous siblings.

A graveside service will be held on Monday, November 17, 2025 at 11:00 AM in Greenmount Cemetery. There is no visitation but family and friends are invited to gather and remember a man who lived life on his own terms.

Rest easy, cowboy — we’ve got the reins from here.
