Florence Russell

Florence Russell, age 92, of Quincy, died on October 21, 2025 at Sunset Home. She was born April 9, 1933 in Camden, NJ, the daughter of Victor and Florence (Andre) Rocco.

She married George A. Russell, Jr. on November 9, 1959 in Camden, NJ. He preceded her in death on November 27, 2009.

Florence was a very hard worker who was employed at various establishments. She worked at Motorola and then the former Quinsippi Nursing Home. Florence had a strong work ethic, sometimes working 3 jobs.

She was of the Christian faith and a member of Faith Journey Church.

Florence enjoyed walking her dogs and reading her Bible in her free time. She was an avid church goer. She attended every Sunday service until she could no longer go. She valued time spent with her family, especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. In her later years, you could find her snuggled up in her chair in her granddaughter’s living room, watching her favorite Disney movie with her great-grand babies, “Coco.” Florence was known for making her “Famous Macaroni’s” which were a staple at family dinners. She used an adored special recipe that was passed down and insisted on only using Contadina sauce.

Florence had a very caring and giving heart. She supported numerous non-profit organizations such as Shriner’s Hospital, St. Jude, Paralyzed Veteran’s of America, Disabled Veteran’s of America, Feed America, amongst many others.

She is survived by her children: Violet Bentley (Brian) of Wentzville, MO; George Russell of Quincy; and Diana Jones of Florida. Many grandchildren including: Brent Russell; Holly (Jason) Knuf, Amanda (Ethan) Allen, Christina (James) Reid, and Michelle Palmer. Great-grandchildren: Kilee and Noah Lenane; Lorenzo, Emileo, Arabella Reid; Bentley, Lucas, and Ellie Allen; Aurora Knuf. Numerous nieces, nephews, and other relatives also survive.

In addition to her husband George, she was preceded in death by: her parents; son, Joey Ursone; Grandson, Jim Shoop Jr.; and daughter-in-law Lori Russell.

Graveside services will be held on Wednesday, October 29, 2025 in Sunset Cemetery at the Illinois Veteran’s Home AT 11:00 a.m. with Rev. Jon Miles. There is no visitation, but family and friends are invited to the graveside services. Memorials are suggested to Faith Journey Church. Service arrangements are with the Duker and Haugh Funeral Home.
