William “Bill” A. Hendricks Jr.

William “Bill” A. Hendricks Jr., age 66, died Sunday, September 21, 2025 at 9pm at Bickford Senior Living. He was born on April 4, 1959 in Quincy, the son of William and Betty (Glay) Hendricks. On February 13, 1993, he married Sharon (March) Mueller in Las Vegas, NV. She proceeded him in death August 20, 2020.

Bill graduated from Quincy Notre Dame High School in 1977. After graduating, he began working at Wright’s Auto and Tractor parts, initially hired to mow the property. Shortly after, Bill advanced to managing the used parts department where he worked for 13 years. He was later hired at the Illinois Veterans Home in Quincy, working in the truck garage. During this time he did mechanic work, maintenance, and plowed snow during the winter. He worked at the Illinois Veterans Home from 1989 until 2014.

In his spare time, you could find Bill outside. He enjoyed deer hunting, fishing in his pond, shooting targets and clay birds, and going on endless side by side rides with his many canine companions over the years. Bill had a soft heart for animals and was never without a pet. He would pride himself with his gardening skills and every season you could find him and Sharon canning their produce in the kitchen. Bill enjoyed tinkering with anything that had an engine. He would fill his shop with mowers, engines, and anything that needed rebuilt. He always had a rainy day project. Once completed, he enjoyed selling his finished projects at the local flea markets. He also enjoyed metal fabrication, and you could find many of his creations displayed outside around their home.

Bill is survived by his children: Stephanie Hendricks of Quincy and Tyler (Evelyn) Hendricks of Ewing; two step-daughters: Kendra (Matt) Harris of Liberty and Kara (Lisa) Mueller of Quincy; Grandchildren: Joey, Charlie, Cody, Scarlett, and James Hendricks of Quincy and Charlotte Hendricks of Ewing;
Step-grandson: Hudson Harris of Liberty; Great grandson: Jaydon Janes; Sister: Linda (Steve) Reckers of Moncks Corner, SC and a niece: Elizabeth Reckers of Charleston, SC.

In addition to his wife, Sharon, Bill was preceded in death by his parents and a half brother, Harry Hendricks of Quincy.

Visitation will be held at Duker and Haugh Funeral Home Friday, September 26th from 5-7pm. Funeral services will be Saturday, September 27th at 10am at Duker and Haugh Funeral Home with interment to follow at Shiloh Cemetery in Plainville, IL. Memorials are suggested to Quincy Notre Dame or Quincy K9 Connections. Service arrangements are with Duker and Haugh Funeral Home.

    So many fond memories of Bill and Sharon at the Veteran’s Home , a nicer pair you’d never meet. Thankful they are again reunited, sympathies to the family and prayers and hugs.
