Kathy J. Russell

Kathy J. Russell, age 72, of Quincy, died on August 18, 2025 in her home. She was born on November 25, 1952 in Quincy, the daughter of Richard and Wanda (Friday) Russell.

She was a graduate of Quincy Senior High and continued her education at John Wood Community College. Kathy was employed through the Illinois Veterans Home as a Certified Nurse Assistant (CNA) for 22 years until her retirement. She was of Protestant faith.

Kathy was happiest when she was with her children and grandchildren. She enjoyed spending time outside and being with her beloved dog, “Blue.” Some of Kathy’s favorite past times were drinking a diet coke while smoking a cigarette or enjoying a cheeseburger from McDonald’s. She could also be found shopping, and perusing through yard sales or thrift stores.

Kathy is survived by her daughter: Terri (Jeff) Clayton, of Quincy. Grandchildren: Brittney Welch, Jeffery Clayton, Abbigail Clayton, Laci Wert, and Jacob Yates. Great-Grandchildren: Haleigh Welch, Talen Maline, Parker Eberle, and Dalton Eberle. Many nieces and nephews also survive.

She was preceded in death by her parents; significant other, Lavon ‘Sonny’ Logan; a daughter, Darlene Carol Russell; siblings, Connie, Bonnie, Richard, and Jeff Boernson.

Cremation rites will be accorded. A celebration of life will be held on Friday, August 22, 2025 from 4:00 PM until 7:00 PM at South Side Boat Club, 640 S Front Street, Quincy, IL.     My heart is so sad for the family, but so happy for Kathy Jean. I know Wanda, Dick all her siblings, but especially Carol and Sonny were there to welcome her home.
