Jean C. ‘Jeanie’ Goodwin
Jean C. ‘Jeanie’ Goodwin, age 84, of Quincy, Illinois, passed away peacefully on August 16, 2025, surrounded by the love of her family. A devoted wife, mother, aunt, grandmother, sister, and friend. Her life was full of laughter, love, family traditions, and unwavering faith. Jean was born February 9, 1941, to Milton and Eugenia (Arnold) Hoffman, She graduated from Notre Dame High School in 1959 and married the love of her life, Clarence Goodwin Jr., on May 25, 1963. Together, they built a beautiful life rooted in faith, family, and community.
Jean was a talented beautician who worked for 44 years before retiring in 2003. She also faithfully served at Winking’s Market, beginning on May 21, 1956, working through high school and returning after retiring as a beautician in 2003 until present.
Jean was a proud Catholic who prayed the Rosary daily—often more than once—lifting up those in need. Her faith guided her life and inspired those around her. She also gave back by singing with Volunteer Voices for many years, bringing music and joy to nursing homes around Quincy. Jean found joy in the simple, treasured moments—golfing, playing cards and playing shuffle board with loved ones, Saturday shopping trips with her twin sister and grandchildren, holidays at Frank’s camp near the Mississippi River, and yearly Ozark family vacations. Above all, she cherished spending time with her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren, creating memories that will live on through generations.
She is survived by the love of her life, Clarence R. Goodwin, Jr., her children, Greg (Paula) Goodwin, Phil Goodwin, all of Quincy, and Mike Walker, significant other of her late daughter Deborah ‘Deb’ Goodwin Howell; her grandchildren: Glen (Brittanie) McGee III, Elizabeth McGee, Amy Howell, and Jessica (Grant) Wilson, and great-grandchildren: Dreyton Walton, Brayden Williams, Mackenzie McGee, Saydee McGee, and Bailey Hyde; Elijah Karch and Amelia Mahon, and Rose Wilson. Jean is also survived by her beloved twin sister, June Winking, Daniel (Cindy) Hoffman from Quincy, IL and siblings Robert Hoffman from Bolingbrook, IL, Edward (Diane) Hoffman, from Evansville, IN; as well as in-laws Danny (Denise) Goodwin, Perry Mo, Teresa Nett, Quincy, IL and Billy (Judy) Goodwin Seattle, WA. She is fondly remembered by numerous nieces and nephews whom she held close to her heart.
She was preceded in death by her daughter, Deborah ‘Deb’ Howell, her parents Milton and Eugenia Hoffman; her in-laws Clarence (Wilma June) Goodwin, Sr. and Maudie Goodwin Boleach; siblings Joyce (Bill) Heinecke and Fr. Jim Hoffman OFM; and other beloved family members.
Jean’s legacy is one of unwavering faith, kindness, and love. She built a life full of purpose and grace, and the lives she touched are better because of her. Though our hearts are heavy, we celebrate a life well-lived and a soul now at peace.
