Michl Seth Hiatt

Michl Seth Hiatt passed away peacefully at home on June 30, 2025, with his mother by his side.

Michl was born on April 7, 1975, to Dennis Lee Hiatt and Susan Kay (Hagmeier) Hiatt in Keokuk, Iowa. He was a graduate of Quincy Senior High School and was a Certified Nurses Aide (CNA) and Direct Support Person (DSP).

Michl greatly enjoyed gaming. Several times a week, he met with friends at Tri State Gaming. He also enjoyed Renaissance re-enactments as a druid. Michl and his dad especially enjoyed a rowdy game of euchre, a family favorite game, always partnering with his fierce grandmother. Michl enjoyed trivia games, attending many different events in the Quincy area.

Michl volunteered with Red Cross and traveled to New York City to help after the Hurricane Sandy disaster, as well as Oklahoma to help with distribution after the tornadoes.

Life was enjoyable for Michl, even through all of the medical treatments and appointments. He loved to play jokes on his mom, Susan, just to see her smile. He and his dad loved to play pranks together. They were a real team that were loving and kind.

The family would like to thank Stacie from Home Care, who was with Michl’s physical therapist and Mom, for being his rock of support. Also Darwin Smith, who was a very supportive friend.

Michl is survived by his mom, Susan; grandmother, Patricia Hiatt; his aunt, Carol Gates; cousins Connie Parmeter, Cindy, and Danny Merrett, Dale Hagmeier, Jackie Parmeter, and Crissy Hess. His beloved dog Reggie also survives. Michl was preceded in death by his father, Dennis L. Hiatt, his grandfather, Charles W. Hiatt; and grandparents Dorothy and William H. Hagmeier; uncle David Hagmeier.

Requiem Mass will be held Saturday, August 2, 2025 at 11:00AM at St. John’s Cathedral with Rev. Johnny Lawrence. Memorials are suggested to the Quincy Public Library.

    Susan,
This is a wonderful tribute to Michl. I only knew him briefly but not one word you said surprised me. He was a very kind and giving person. He was such a big help to me, ( as were you) on our trip to Italy a few years back. I will always remember him (with a smile on my face), as he saw me looking with uncertainty and apprehension about walking all those steps on one of the bridges in Venice. All of a sudden I was off my feet as he carried me up the bridge and back down the other side. He was a great young man and you can be very proud of him. He was a blessing. My sincere condolences. May he Rest in Peace 🙏
