Kevin E. Wellman

Kevin E. Wellman, age 63, of Fowler, IL passed away on July 20, 2025 at 10:55 PM at his home with his wife by his side. Kevin was born September 10, 1961, to Charles and Shirley (Beckman) Wellman in Quincy, IL. He was married to Karen Ruth Williams on December 19, 1992, at Quincy Baptist Church in Quincy, IL. She survives.

Kevin attended Payson High School. He started his lawn/landscaping career as Landscaping Foreman. Kevin worked for Frese Ornamental, Grounds Supervisor at Blessing Hospital, and a 32-year career as General Manager for Lawn Solutions retiring May 2024.

He proudly served his country in the United States Army from 1978-2004. In 1981, during which he became a Drill Sergeant. He served in Operation Enduring Freedom. He was a Sergeant First Class. Kevin also was a senior weapons instructor for the Small Arms Readiness Group (SARG) serving multiple military bases in the US.

He was a member of Central Baptist Church where he served on various committees, taught Sunday School, helped on Wednesday night with Bugs, and drove the church van. Kevin accepted Jesus Christ into his heart June 2004.

Kevin was an avid outdoorsman. He enjoyed hunting for deer, squirrel, and rabbits. One of his greatest joys was deer hunting with his grandsons. Kevin loved rabbit hunting with his beloved Beagles, Ranger, Roxie, Gracie, and Ruby. He enjoyed boating with Karen on their pontoon and jet skis. Kevin loved riding his Harley and taking road trips. Kevin was happiest when he was spending time with his grandchildren and to them was affectionately known as “Papa.” Kevin loved spending time at the farm in Missouri.

In addition to his wife Karen, survivors include his children Tyler, Jennifer, and Ashely Wellman, Quincy, Stacey (Melvin) Linder II of Mendon, IL and Brandon (Amy) Payne of Rockford, IL, and his mother, Shirley, of Quincy.

Grandchildren: Jordan (Taylor) Payne, Reed Linder, Madison, and Macy Payne, and a great-granddaughter due in December.

Siblings: Kent (Kim) Wellman of Quincy, Sue (Doug) Curtis of Paloma, IL Sherry (Ronnie) Parsons of Perry, MO.

In-Laws: Sharon (Rick) Shiverdecker of Fulton, MO; Larry (Janet) Williams of Perry, MO; Tiffany (Randy) Maxwell of Mexico, MO; and father-in-law, Joseph Williams of Laddonia, MO. Many nieces, nephews, and cousins also survive.

He was preceded in death by his father Charles; grandparents, Alfred and Lillian Wellman; Arthur and Viola Beckman; brother, Steve Wellman; and mother-in-law, Delores Williams.

Funeral services will be on Monday, July 28, 2025, at 10:00 a.m. in Central Baptist Church, Quincy with Chaplain Josh Vahle. Interment will be in Greenmount Cemetery with Military Honors. Visitation is Sunday from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. at Central Baptist Church.

    I knew Kevin all my life. We grew up together as children. We served in the the Army and I just found out recently. So I miss him very much
