Bonnie S. Mathes

Bonnie S. Mathes age 86, of Quincy, IL died on Monday, July 7, 2025, in Timberpoint Healthcare Center, Camp Point, IL. Bonnie was born June 25, 1939, in Meyer, IL a daughter of Llewellyn F. Barnes and Emma J. (Arnold) Barnes Innes. She married James “Jimbo” Mathes on March 23, 1974, in Pittsfield, IL. He preceded her in death on July 20, 2017.

Bonnie was a C.N.A. at the former Quinsippi and Sycamore Nursing Homes, and Timberpoint Healthcare Center, after which she retired from her C.N.A. career.

Bonnie’s favorite holiday was Christmas, and the family get-togethers that were always a holiday tradition. She liked playing Bingo and Yahtzee. Bonnie was a huge St. Louis Cardinal baseball fan, she also liked the vacations she took with her sister, and going out-to-eat, especially to O’Shea’s, Village Inn, and a good buffet in Canton, MO.

Survivors include her daughter, Marjorie (Raymond) Terwelp of Quincy, IL and one stepson: Jason (Sandy) Mathes of Macon, MO:

Two granddaughters: Emily Walbert and Alex Mathes. Three grandsons: Jimmy (Holly) Mathes, Travis “Bubba” (Amanda) Mathes, and Zach Mathes.

A sister, Joe Ann Brown, a brother, Allen Barnes; eight great-grandchildren, two great-great-granddaughters and many nieces and nephews also survive.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, a stepson, Travis Mathes; and sister, Nancy Hults, Wanda Sparrow, Margie Zinn, brothers, Charles and Gary Barnes.

Graveside services will be held on Monday, July 14, 2025 at 1:00 p.m . in Greenmount Cemetery. There is no public visitation, but family and friends are welcome to attend the graveside services. Memorials are suggested to the Quincy Humane Society.

Service arrangements are in care of Duker & Haugh Funeral Home.

    I worked with Bonnie at Quinssippi Nursing Home. She was a great lady and a great Cna!! She will be truly missed!! My thoughts and prayers are with her family!
