Donald Thomas, age 80, of the Illinois Veterans Home, formerly of Rockport, IL, died on Friday, June 6, 2025 in the Illinois Veterans Home. He was born on November 22, 1944 in Chicago, IL the son of Arthur and Bertha (Anderson) Thomas. He married Teresa Roudebush Shamblin on June 21, 1997. She survives.

Don was retired military after serving in the United States Army for 24 years. He later worked at the Illinois Veterans Home until his retirement.

Don greatly enjoyed his hobby farm and raising his animals. He also enjoyed coffee with the neighbors.

In addition to his wife Teresa, Don is also survived by:
CHILDREN: Tammy Fiss (Tommy); Brandon Thomas, William Waller (Melinda) ; Brian Lewis (Amanda), Tricia Benley (Angelo) and Lindsay Morse (Matt).
Numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews.

Don was preceded in death by his parents and his siblings: Lola, Grace, Connie, Phyllis, Grant and Mark.

Cremation rites will be accorded. Graveside services will be held on Thursday, June 12, 2025 at 10:30 at the Sunset Cemetery of the Illinois Veterans Home. Military rites conducted by the Illinois Veteran Home Honor Detail and the United States Army Honor Detail. The Duker & Haugh Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
