Merle B. Koontz
Merle B. Koontz, age 82, of Liberty, IL, died on Saturday, May 10, 2025 in the Mt. Sterling Health and Rehab Center. He was born on January 15, 1943 in Washington, Indiana, the son of Earl Lawrence and Edna (Wolf) Koontz. Merle was a 1961 Central High School Graduate. He married Theresa Flachs on August 12, 1962 in Payson Christian Church. She survives.
Merle worked as a computer programmer.
Merle was well known for his involvement with Youth League coaching in Payson and throughout the Adams County area. Merle was an avid St. Louis Cardinal fan and didn’t give up on the Rams even when they left St. Louis.

TWO CHILDREN: Brian (Julie) Koontz of St. Augustine, FL and Clinton (Kim) Koontz of St. Charles, MO.
EIGHT GRANDCHILDREN: Zachary Koontz, Khristopher (Kasey) Koontz, Emily Koontz, Lindsey (Dylan) Wolf and Ryan Bubenhoffer; Ashley Koontz, Reagan Koontz and Logan Koontz.
6 Great-grandchildren along with nieces nephews and other relatives also survive.
Merle was preceded in death by his parents and a brother Larry Koontz.
Funeral services will be held on Thursday, May 15, 2025 at 12:00 Noon at the Duker & Haugh Funeral Home. Interment in Quincy Memorial Park. Visitation will be held on Thursday from 11:00 AM until the time of the services at noon. Memorials may be made to the Quincy Park District or the Quincy YMCA. I grew up across the road from Merle and Tessie Koontz. Brian and Clinton were like brothers to all of us. So many memories. Thoughts and prayers to Tessie, Brian and Clinton, as well as the rest of the family. God Bless. 🌹
