Charles Menke
Charles H. Menke, age 94, of Quincy, died on Saturday, February 8, 2025, in Blessing Hospital. He was born on November 30, 1930, in La Belle, Missouri, the son of Charles and Mary E. (Ferguson) Menke. He married Betty K. Hayden on January 12, 1952. She preceded him in death on May 29, 2017. Charles worked at Electric Wheel for 30 years. After retirement he worked at Branch-Hess vending company and Bruce 88 filling station. Charles had many hobbies and was very adept at making and fixing all kinds of things. Charles and Betty enjoyed square dancing and camping with friends and family. They especially enjoyed spending time with their children and grandchildren. Charles enjoyed visiting with Sam (Sally) and David Speer, his nephews, who brought him food each week.
He is survived by:
TWO CHILDREN: Donna Phillips of Quincy; Jerri Deming and her husband Skip of Columbia, MO.
THREE GRANDCHILDREN: Jay Briscoe (Whitney) of Quincy, Jason Sergent (Monica) and Scott Sergent of Columbia, MO.
NINE GREAT-GRANDCHILDREN: Claire and Harper Sergent; Hannah and Maddy Sergent; Alysha (Sunny), Kayla, Gavin, Jaden and Reese Briscoe.
TWO GREAT-GREAT GRANDCHILDREN: Aluna and Geonni Briscoe.
Numerous nieces, nephews and other relatives also survive.
In addition to his wife, he was also preceded in death by his parents, and sisters: Ina, Nina, Dottie, Mary Lou and Grace.
A private family graveside inurnment will be held at a later date in Greenmount Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the Vermont Street Methodist Church. The Duker & Haugh Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
